Canada is the home team this game and is wearing primarily white uniforms with red trim, black pants and helmets. The Swiss are wearing primarily red uniforms with white trim, black pants and helmets.
Julio Billia is making his third straight start in goal for Canada--he's second in the tournament with a 2.02 goals-against average. The Swiss, meanwhile, are countering with Kevin Fehr--the first appareance for him. Descloux was impressive for most of their first two games, but was in goal for that late collapse yesterday.
The puck is worked from the right wing boards over to SIMON KINDSCHI at the left hashmarks, who beats Billia with a high wrister to the near post. Power play goal. Assists: Cedric Maurer, Julien Privet.
The Canadians come out storming after giving up the opening goal. After getting denied on his initial attempt, BRAYDEN POINT made good on his second shot and ties this game. Assist: Spencer Watson.
2nd period begins at 16:14 CEST, 10:14 EDT.
Impressive Canadian rush led by Rouke Chartier--his weak-angle shot was stopped, but the rebound came in front to SAM BENNETT, and he had time to pick the low corner. Assist: Rourke Chartier.
After a bad Canadian line change where a player had to leave the puck to avoid a too-many-men call, the puck slid all the way to the Canadian zone and there KEVIN FIALA made a beautiful move to his backhand and beat Billia upstairs to tie this game up again quickly. Unassisted.
After having possession in the zone for ages they finally break through. AARON EKBLAD fakes a shot, moves to elude Swiss forward and scores on a low shot through traffic that I'm not sure Fehr could see. Assist: Joe Hicketts.
3rd period starts at 16:59 CEST, 10:59 EDT.
It looked like Canada was going into a bit of a defensive shell and that may have cost them. After a lengthy stretch without any shots, the Swiss started a play from their own end that finished with a hard shot from the point by captain SIMON KINDSCHI.
Overtime looming, as a wide range of scenarios possible right now as far as making the semifinals.
Surely this more of a defensive timeout because it's not likely they'll score in regulation at this point.
With both teams getting a point, Switzerland now has 5 points, Canada 4 points, Sweden 3 points, Czech Republic 2 points. Either Canada or Switzerland will get 1 more point this game. Swedes and Czechs play tonight. Top two teams advance.
Shootout coming up, and we'll find out soon who the shooters are. It's 3 rounds, then sudden death if still tied.
If Switzerland wins this, they're in for sure and Canada advances if the Czechs win in regulation. The Czechs are eliminated if Switzerland wins, so they're all cheering for Canada for sure.
SPENCER WATSON gets credit for the game-winning goal.
Got all that?
Tune into Czech Republic Sweden at 19:00 CEST, 13:00 EDT. (17:51:15)
