The Czechs rebounded from an inconsistent effort against Sweden with a solid game against Latvia from start to finish. The final score is 4-2 but it would have been worse if not for the goaltending of Edgars Masalskis.

Shots on goal in the 3rd period (and game): CZE 8 (39), LAT 4 (20).

    Quality scoring chances: CZE 4 (13), LAT 1 (4)

The Czechs are now 1-1 and in 2nd place in the group with 3 points, while Latvia is 4th with 0. The other two teams in the group, Sweden and Switzerland, will face each other in a little over two hours and we'll have it, so come back for that one, and for every game of the men's and women's ice hockey tournaments in Sochi. 60:00
    Game over.

    58:47
Icing Latvia. That was actually shot by goaltender Edgar Masalskis trying to head-man the puck, but nobody got it. He's stopped as many pucks as he can and trying to contribute on offence too.

    57:25
And the Czechs have killed off both penalties . . . it looks like they should have this game in hand now.

    56:55
Shorthanded Czech rush, Cervenka the wrister, pad save Masalskis, Latvians start back running out of time.

    56:20
One penalty is over, Latvian power play continues, play in the Czech zone.

    56:05
Pavelec was down but Karsums didn't have enough of an angle and hit the side of the net.

    55:49
Ozolins to Karsums for the one-timer, whistles just wide.

    55:18
    Timeout Latvia.

    55:18
And now we've got another Czech penalty as Marek Zidlicky is called for hooking, so Latvia with a golden chance on a 2-man advantage for :57.

    54:15
In the ensuing scramble in the Czech zone, Roman Cervenka is penalised for hooking. As one-side as it's been, it's only a 2-goal game and the Latvians can get within striking distance if they cash in here.

    54:10
Daugavins spins around and shoots in the Lev zone, pad save Pavelec, rebound loose for a while a finally cleared.

    53:55
    Icing Latvia.

    53:40
Frolik from a weak angle, kicked out by Masalskis.

    52:41
Shot from Zbynek Michalek hits a body in front, or maybe Masalskis in the shoulder, and goes out of play. Faceoff in the Latvian zone.

    51:00
Now a couple of shots for Latvia, Pavelec keeps them both out.

    49:49
Puck deflects into the Czech bench, faceoff in the neutral zone outside the Czech line.

    48:18
    Icing Latvia.

    47:54
Right off the draw there's a shot from the point by Smid, Edgars Masalskis stops it and then stops Jagr again on the rebound. This game would be a rout by now if not for him.

    47:49
Roman Cervenka leads a Czech rush, tries to go high glove side but Masalskis robs him with the glove. The Lativan goalie has done all he can for his team today, just as he did on Wednesday.
