Justin Hodgman cut in front and dropped a pass to JAROSLAV KOSOV, who beat Stepanek with a quick shot to the glove side. Assist: Justin Hodgman.
On a shorhanded 2-on-1, JAKUB KLEPIS used Ondrej Nemec as a decoy and then beat Ahonen between the legs. Metallurg remains on the power. Unassisted goal.
Just after a Lev change, SERGEI MOZYAKIN gets sprung on a breakaway. Stepanek gets a piece of his shot, but it falls to the ice and slowly rolls across the line. Assist: Ryan O'Reilly.
Shots on goal in the 2nd period (and game): Lev 9 (17), Metallurg 11 (23).

Strong shift from Lev's 2nd line when they really needed it. From behind the net, Tomas Rachunek passed in front to JIRI HUNKES sneaking in from the point, who beats Ahonen to the short side on a one-timer. Assists: Jakub Klepis, Tomas Rachunek.
Keeping the pressure on in the Lev zone, JUSTIN HODGMAN received a pass from the corner, turned, and fired a shot to the blocker side.
Metallurg kept up the pressure, Platonov with another shot that Stepanek stopped, but RYAN O'REILLY was there to put in the rebound. Assists: Denis Platonov, Sergei Mozyakin.
Shots on goal in 1st period: Lev 8, Metallurg 12.
2nd period begins at 19:45 CET, 13:45 EST.
Quickly on the power play, MATS ZUCCARELLO receives a feed from behind the net and scores on a one-timer. Assists: Denis Platonov, Ryan O'Reilly.
Mozyakin is the KHL´s leading scorer with an incredible 68 points in 39 games, so his outburst against Lev the first time around was no anomaly. His 30 goals is also a league-high, while his 38 assists ranks second, behind Malkin. With his centre gone, some might expect his production to taper off somewhat, and it might, but he´s clearly a threat no matter what. The team also has the likes of Nikolai Kulemin, who has 38 points and is a +25 -- tied for tops in the league, Justin Hodgman with 26 points, and Dmitri Kazionov and Mats Zuccarello with 20 each. In addition to Malkin, the team has also lost top-scoring defenceman Sergei Gonchar, handing the lead to Viktor Antipin, who has 20 points and a big threat from the point with the man advantage with 8 power-play goals, one of which came in the first meeting between these teams. Little wonder this team leads the KHL with 147 goals in 41 games.
As hard as it is to keep Metallurg from scoring, it´s almost as daunting trying to score on them. Their 92 goals against is tied for 5th-best in the league, and a big reason for that is the play of Ari Ahonen in goal. In 31 games, he has a 1.84 goals-against average, .930 save percentage and 4 shutouts, which are all near the top of the league.
Near the top, but not quite--the KHL´s shutout lead is jointly held by Vitali Kosheckhin of Severstal Cherepovets and Tomáš Pöpperle of Lev, thanks to Sunday´s 1-0 victory over Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg. Despite the zero, we´re not likely to see Pöpperle this game, however, as coach Václav Sýkora likes to alternate goalies, making it Jakub Štěpánek´s turn. Sunday´s game, of course, was the first without top-line winger Jakub Voráček and stalwart defenceman Zdeno Chára, who are both on their way back to the NHL. Marcel Hossa replaced Voráček on the top line, though the lone goal came on the power play when Jakub Klepiš was on the ice with Erik Christensen and Nicklas Danielsson.
Sunday´s game also welcomed back captain Jiří Novotný, who had a solid game with a game-high 5 shots on goal, and saw the Lev debut of defenceman Jakub Nakladal, who was a physical presence, especially along the boards.
Metallurg Magnitogorsk starts action on Tuesday in 3rd place in the Eastern Conference with 82 points, one behind Ak Bars Kazan. Lev Praha is 7th in the West with 57 points, two ahead of Donbass Donetsk and two behind Severstal.
