    There is the final buzzer, and Sibir Novosibirsk have got their new KHL campaign off to a flyer with a competitive 6:1 triumph over Metallurg Novokuznetsk! It really was comfortable for the home side but the game was full of niggly penalties. Andreas Thuresson with a double found the net, as well as Patrick Hersley, Dmitriy Monya, and Alexey Kopeikin who as well struck twice. Ansel Galimov got Metallurg's consolation.     This is indeed the first game of the season for Sibir, and at home only victory will be acceptable for them. Metallurg are coming off the back of a brilliant 1:0 triumph away to Avangard though, and they won't be short of confidence.
     
    All hockey fans in Novosibirsk have been long awaiting the start of the new KHL season, and they will want to have a repeat of last season where they reached the Eastern Conference semi finals beating Kazan giants Ak Bars along the way. Metallurg are generally regarded as one of the league's more modest outfits, but they have several talented youngsters including star goalkeeper Ilya Sorokin.
