Lugano players on the ice during their morning skate in Pilsen. Lugano have a 4-1 lead ahead of the return game.
The hosts of the 2nd leg HC Pilsen boosted their confidence on Sunday with a win in a shootout over local rival in domestic league. Now, they have to focus on the international competition, where they trail by three goals in half time of play-offs' first round.
"We didn't play well in Lugano, we know that, but we're going to go into it and try to play our best and see what happens," said forward Nicholas Johnson, who will be meeting in action with his friend Ryan Hollweg after a while. Hollweg was put on injury list after the first round of group stage, when Pilsen defeated Stavanger away from home. Also, goalkeeper Lukas Sochurek is apparently going to experience his competitive debut for the first team in Pilsen.
The Swiss side managed to take advantage of their significantly wide ice rink at home arena and built themselves up a nice three-goals cushion.
"We want to go there and dictate the pace of the game. Actually we are playing good so there's no reason why we should not make the next round," said Head Coach Doug Shedden, who can look forward to put Maxim Lapierre back into the lineup after his New York Rangers' try-out. "It's obviously better to have him with us then to see him playing with another team. He was a huge part of our last year success, so we are happy to have him back," Shedden added.
