Donbass outshot Dynamo in the final period, 10-5. For game, Donbass had 29 shots to 19 for Dynamo.

In terms of actual gameplay, however, Dynamo was the superior team for most of the game. Donbass put up a valiant fight, but was not really able to get much sustained offensive attack for lengthy stretches of play. Most of the Donbass shots were of the routine variety, and the total scoring chances were actually slightly in Dynamo's favor.

Defending Gagarin Cup champion Dynamo Moscow. is off to another strong start in 2012-13. Boasting a KHL-best 45 points, Dynamo is especially formidable on its home.

As dangerous as the team was even before the NHL lockout, the team is even more so now with the likes of Alexander Ovechkin and Nicklas Bäckström. Other standouts include Richard Gynge (last year's top goal-scorer in Sweden's Elitserien) and veteran defenseman Filip Novak.

Today, Dynamo hosts Ukraine-based Donbass Donetsk. The club features some names of it own that should be familiar to many North American fans: forwards Ruslan Fedotenko, Evgeny Dadonov, Alexei Ponikarovsky and Vaclav Nedorost; defensemen Clay Wilson, Oskars Bartulis and Jaroslav Obsut and goaltender Erik Ersberg.

Fedotenko, who leads the team's forwards in ice time, is officially day-to-day with an injury suffered in the first period Donbass' last game. The injury came one match after Fedotenko scored a hat trick and dominated in the faceoff circle going head-to-head against Evgeni Malkin.
