In terms of actual gameplay, however, Dynamo was the superior team for most of the game. Donbass put up a valiant fight, but was not really able to get much sustained offensive attack for lengthy stretches of play. Most of the Donbass shots were of the routine variety, and the total scoring chances were actually slightly in Dynamo's favor.
(18:37:28)
Dynamo controlled an offensive zone faceoff and the play moved in deep. Tsvetkov scored from a sharp angle with Kovarkov on the doorstep of the crease in front.
Donbass got a 2-on-1 rush moments after the expiration of the Belukhin penalty. He received the puck as he exited the box, broke into the offensive zone and fed Pettersson. The Swede blasted home a one-timer.
While anything can happen in hockey and a two-goal lead can disappear in a hurry, Dynamo seems to have this game pretty much under control. They've had the better of the play for the majority of the game, despite the shot total disadvantage.
Podhradsky with a nice shot upstairs. Much needed power play goal for Donbass to stay somewhat close in the game.
Scorer is K. VOLKOV. Assistant Boikov.
Another point-blank goal for Dynamo.
A perfectly-executed rush for a 2-0 Dynamo lead. Volkov, got open, received the cross ice feed and tapped it into the net before Ersberg could get over to the other side.
Kasyanchuk one-timed home a shot from the left circle. Ersberg didn't have much of a chance to stop it.
As dangerous as the team was even before the NHL lockout, the team is even more so now with the likes of Alexander Ovechkin and Nicklas Bäckström. Other standouts include Richard Gynge (last year's top goal-scorer in Sweden's Elitserien) and veteran defenseman Filip Novak.
Today, Dynamo hosts Ukraine-based Donbass Donetsk. The club features some names of it own that should be familiar to many North American fans: forwards Ruslan Fedotenko, Evgeny Dadonov, Alexei Ponikarovsky and Vaclav Nedorost; defensemen Clay Wilson, Oskars Bartulis and Jaroslav Obsut and goaltender Erik Ersberg.
Fedotenko, who leads the team's forwards in ice time, is officially day-to-day with an injury suffered in the first period Donbass' last game. The injury came one match after Fedotenko scored a hat trick and dominated in the faceoff circle going head-to-head against Evgeni Malkin.
