Severstal Cherepovets
Wednesday 21.11.2012, 16:30KHL

For wide parts of the game you couldn't see a huge difference between the two teams, with Severstal even having the better chances in the first two periods while SKA scored with one of their first real chances in a until then not so eventful game. A lot of emotion and scoring chances on both sides, plus a nice comeback by Severstal made the third period very interesting but in the end the pressure of the favourites was too high, giving them the revenge for the loss against Severstal three days ago. (18:46:15)

    60:00
    Game over.

    59:15
Koshechkin leaves his goal but SKA fails to score into the wide open net!

    58:45
    GOAL FOR SKA!

And there is the very bitter end for Severstal. SKA with another attack and IVAN NEPRYAYEV stands on the second post to get the puck past the already beaten Koshechkin.

Assisted by Vladimir Tarasenko and Dmitry Kalinin.

    57:09
Timeout Severstal. The pressure on their goal is really high now and they have to react !

    57:00
SKA with intense efforts. They want to decide the game in regulation.

    55:20
Ilya Kovalchuk in a nice shooting position but he doesn't hit the puck. You don't see that very often from the Russian super star.

    50:00
The game is getting emotional now !!

    50:00
Patrick Thoresen (SKA) gets five minutes for roughing.

    50:00
Alexander Fedoseyev (Severstal) gets five minutes for roughing.

    51:28
    Goal for Severstal!

Wow that was a fast reaction by Severstal. The guests tie the game through TOM WANDELL who makes it from a short distance.

Assisted by Nikolai Stasenko and Niclas Bergfors.

    49:50
    Goal for Severstal!

Break away for Severstal and VADIM BERDNIKOV scores a very important one for the guests who are back into the match.

    Assisted by Bogdan Kiselevich.

    47:43
Can Severstal come back from the two-goal deficit? It doesn't look this way. The team seems shocked.

    44:48
    GOAL FOR SKA!

The captain ILYA KOVALCHUK receives the puck from Tarasenko one metre in front of the Severstal net and fires it past Koshechkin. No chance at all for the Severstal goalie.

    Assisted by Vladimir Tarasenko.

    44:00
Wow! Koshechkin blocks a huge blast. He has a really good day.

    42:40
First SKA chance of the second period, nothing special for Koshechkin.

    40:01
    3rd period began.

    40:00
    2nd period finished.

    39:07
Ilya Kovalchuk with a chance himself but the SKA captain can't get enough power into his shot.

    37:45
Severstal forwards with a couple of nice shooting positions but they don't create a single opportunity. SKA denfence doesn't look too good today.

    36:05
Nice shot from a sharp angle by SKA, followed by a counter attack from Severstal, ruined by running into an offside position. Lack of attention in the last minutes on both sides.

    35:38
Perfect backhand pass to the blue line but the SKA defender misses the puck...

    34:00
Right now the game is very open. A goal could happen at any time on any side though SKA has more chances.

    32:40
Blue line shot by SKA. Koshechkin without problems.

    31:10
Break away chance for SKA! That one was pretty dangerous but Tarasenko dosn't make it.

    28:45
SKA fans are chanting to help their team. They really need some motivation today. You couldn't say who is the better positioned team in the table by just watching this game.

    27:10
Severstal again in front of the Ezhov net with several occasions to take a rebound but in the end SKA can clear the puck out of their zone. Severstal has the chances but they just don't use them.

    25:00
The game is not really high-class but the atmosphere in the arena is very well. A lot of guest fans are there too.

    25:40
Good idea by a Severstal forward from behind the net but the puck misses the net.

    23:00
Nurtdinov tries a wrap-around but crashed into Ezhov. Seems he has hurt himself in that scene.

    20:40
SKA has problems to get the puck out of their own zone for more than a few seconds. Severstal is very motivated after the at this time lucky SKA lead.

    20:01
    2nd period began.

    20:00
    1st period finished.

    15:49
GOAL FOR SKA! Scored by MAXIM CHUDINOV ! Assisted by Anton Burdasov and Alexander Kucheryavenko. SKA comes over the left wing and a pass is received by Chudinov directly in front of the net. He has no problems to get the puck past Koshechkin.

    15:00
A lot of breaks recently. That way the game is not developing too well.

    13:20
Tarasenko tries it with a wrap-around but Koshechkin was there to save it.

    12:40
At the moment we don't see to any good scoring opportunities in St. Petersburg. Severstal is trying to get the first one while SKA was forced to stay in defence during two shorthanded plays already.

    09:40
By now Severstal is able to calm down the game, but still SKA with the man advantage.

    08:40
First power play for SKA and they are creating a lot of danger.

    07:30
Severstal still with the fresher impression and currently they are even in power play.

    03:10
Distance shot from Severstal that earns them a face off. A lot to do for Ezhov by now.

    01:10
Very agressive start by Severstal. They were already in front of the SKA goal a couple of times in dangerous positions.

    00:00
    Game started.

On the first look it might seem to be a relatively easy job for SKA St. Petersburg as they are currently among the top five teams of the KHL table and second in Bobrov Division with 17 to 8 wins so far. But after the national team break a convincing 4-1 in Minsk was followed by a last-minute win against outsiders Vityaz Chekhov and a shootout loss against today's opponent Severstal Cherepovets three days ago.

For Severstal the season has been an up and down. At the begin they were better away than on home ice but recently they showed a better image at home and lost four of their last five away games. So that statistic is not so promising for the third in Tarasov Division.

If Severstal can stop the SKA stars around Ilya Kovalchuk another time we will see in a few moments.
