		The two top teams in the East did not disappoint. After nearly two and a half periods of back-and-forth hockey, Avangard pulled away with this one in the third, benefiting from some shaky goaltending by Traktor's Andrei Mezin. Led tonight by Sergei Kalinin and Tomas Zaborsky, who scored his twelfth of the season on a penalty shot, Avangard now takes the outright lead in the Eastern Conference with 59 points. 		A good first period from two strong teams. The scoring chances opened up a little more towards the end of the period and Avangard finished the period looking like the stronger of the two squads. Shots in the first period were: Traktor: 7, Avangard: 11

		NO GOAL. It looked as though the Avangard player redirected the puck with his glove and into the net, and the game remains tied 1-1.

		The two top teams in the Eastern Conference face in off in a battle of division leaders. Avangard Omsk is running away with the Chernyshev division, while Traktor Chelyabinsk currently tops the highly-competitive Kharlamov division. Both clubs have earned 56 points so far, though Traktor has two games in hand. Avangard is hot, winning eight of their last nine matches, the lone loss coming at the hands of Traktor earlier in the month. They are led by Slovakian Tomas Zaborsky, Sergei Kostitsyn, and Alexander Frolov. On the other hand, Traktor’s top scorer is the young sniper Evgeni Kuznetsov and NHL fans might recognize Jan Bulis and Andrei Kostitsyn. Yes, it will be a battle of the brothers Kostitsyn. Traktor will be without all-star goaltender Michael Garnett who suffered an injury last week. The club has just one win in three games since the injury.
