SKA goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky allowed two questionable goals, which gave a game Atlant team a fighting chance to skate away with points. But it wasn't to be for the team from Mytishchi.
The shorthanded goal puts SKA ahead, 4-3.
Scorer is KOVALCHUK. Assistants are Dallman and Alexandrov.
Scorer is ENGQVIST. Assistant is Semyonov.
SKA dominated most of the second period after the early fluke goal by Engqvist. Khudobin nearly got his team to the locker room with the game tied, 2-2, but had no chance to stop the late Kovalchuk goal. The previous one by Klimenko looked stoppable despite the defenseman getting stripped of the puck a split second earlier.
Kovalchuk peeled off the walls and cut toward the net, received a pass by Tarasenko through the splayed legs of a defender. From point blank range, Kovalchuk beat Khudobin to put SKA ahead just before the end of the period.
Scorer is KOVALCHUK. Assistant is Tarasenko.
Scorer is KLIMENKO.
Scorer is ENGQVIST. Assistant Zherdev.
SKA looks close to scoring the tying goal unless Atlant elevates its play again.
After a slow start to the game, action started to heat up. Neither Bobrovsky nor Khudobin were severely test by most of the shots but the chances improved in both quantity and quality as the period progressed.
Scorer is DALLMAN. Assistant is Afinogenov.
Scorer is KOLTSOV. Assistant is Kublakov.

The game against Spartak was especially ugly. SKA skated with little energy and was prone to defensive lapses leading to outnumbered rushes. The result was a 6-1 loss. Sergei Bobrovsky was pulled early in the second period with SKA trailing 3-0. Patrick Thoresen scored the lone goal for St. Petersburg.
Atlant is currently in 11th place in the Western Conference. However, the club is coming off a 3-1 win over Neftekhimik. Nikolay Zherdev scored his 12th goal of the season for Atlant, who also got goals from Maxim Mayorov and Igor Ignatushkin.
