    Dinamo Riga had an easy job defending the lead against Severstal in the third period. Just when Dinamo earned a two-goal lead, Severstal found the answer. In the end an empty netter was decisive for the Latvians. (18:11:48)

    Severstal Cherepovets are in the comfortable role as a clear favourite when they recive Dinamo Riga this afternoon for a Western Conference duel. The hosts have earned 53 points in 35 games so far and are in a very good position to reach this year's Gagarin Cup playoffs. Dinamo Riga on the other side has only earned 36 points in 37 games and are second last in the whole conference.

    Severstal have won the last two matches of their road trip recently while Dinamo Riga ended their three-game home stint with only four points but at least they gained a surprising 4-1 win against top side Avangard Omsk.

    By far the topscorers of Severstal are Vadim Shipachyov (26 pts) and Yevgeny Ketov (19 pts) but also Alexander Ryazantsev (13 pts) and Vadim Berdnikov (11 pts) have proofed their scoring qualities. Dinamo Riga has Martins Karsums (25 pts), Jamie Johnson (20 pts) and Miks Indrasis (19 pts) as their top three.

    If Severstal can further improve their playoff position or if Dinamo gets the big surprise, we'll see in a few minutes.
