    An interesting first period as Kometa starts out hard, obviously to show that the last 5 games wasn't their style. Vitkovice a little slower at the start and are having visible trouble setting up their offensive strategy though Kometa's defence seem to be able to shut down every play on their blueline. Kometa's offence are forechecking hard and it pays off for Jan Hruska who puts Brno in the lead in the 2nd minute of the game. Vitkovice however are far from giving up and are able to tie the game at 1-1 at 9:23 with a beautiful solo goal by Ondrej Sedivy.

    HC Vitkovice Steel will be playing their first ELH game after 2 weeks as they had participated in the Spengler Cup which was being hosted in Switzerland, where they finished in 3rd place. Prior to the tournament, they managed to gain 13 points in 5 games to put them in their current 10th place overall. Therefore we can definitely expect that Vitkovice will coming to Brno thinking of nothing other than a win.
     
    HC Kometa's headcoach Vener has quite a few things to be worried about as his team gained only one point within the last 5 games. As a result, there were several changes in the team with Miloslav Horavy and Boris Valabik leaving HC Kometa.

    Coach Vener's comments: "We had some meetings during the New Year, practises were scheduled instead of having days off and changes in the lineup were made. The situation isn't anything great but we were worse off last year and managed to come out on top".
     
    The end of 2012 didn't work out well at all for HC Kometa Brno as they lost their last 5 games in a row before the New Year came in. Hopefully in 2013 they will be able to turn it around and begin to gain points in the race for the Playoffs!
    In their first game of 2013, HC Kometa welcomes HC Vitkovice Steel, who played last week in the prestigious Spengler Cup.

    Lineups for both teams should be at full strength after the holidays with only a few changes as Kometa welcomes back defencemen Jozef Kovacik, and Vitkovice look forward to having Viktor Ujcik, Mark Malik and Per Strapac back on the ice.
