Riga's goalie Jucers was sound, for the most part, all game and turned away 24 shots. After giving up that shaky first goal to Riga's Karsums, Ezhov put up a wall turning away 18 Riga shots.
With that win, SKA remains atop the KHL league standings. SKA faces Minsk on Saturday while Riga continues their quest for a win in 2013 against Torpedo on Friday. All games can be followed here on EuroLiveScores.com.
Thank you for following.

Scorer is TIKHONOV. Assistant Ramstedt. Ramstedt notches his first point in his first game for SKA giving Tikhonov the puck as he broke into the Riga zone. Tikhonov then deked around the defence and let a shot go that beat Jucers high. Even Strength goal
Thoresen got SKA on the scoreboard with a powerplay goal, but Riga has had some great chances this period keeping Ezhov sharp.
Scorer is THORESEN. Assistant Martensson, Kalinin. Powerplay goal for SKA as Kalinin fires a pass from SKA's goaline to Martensson who breaks into the Riga zone with Thoresen driving the middle. Martensson feeds a pass to Thoresen and Thoresen doesn't miss notching his 17th goal of the season.
Riga got most of their shots on their powerplay and managed to get some momentum from those chances.
Scorer is KARSUMS. Assistant Szczechura.
KARSUMS lets a slap shot go from top of circles, near the wall, that somehow sneaks by Ezhov. Ezhov definitely wishing he had a second chance on that one.
SKA will be playing with a depleted roster as Kovalchuck (New Jersey), Tarasenko (St. Louis) and Bobrovsky (Columbus) have returned to their respective NHL clubs. Trying to fill the holes, SKA has recently signed Finnish forward Teemu Ramstedt and Russian forward Alexander Vasilyev. Ramstedt comes via SM-liiga’s Espoo Blues where he was leading his club with 34 points. Vasilyev was acquired from HC Donbass for a 3rd round draft pick in 2015 and will most likely report to HC VMF St. Petersburg in the VHL before getting a call up to SKA.
Riga is currently sitting 12th in the 14 team Western Conference. They are looking for their first win of 2013 and are riding a three game losing streak. Riga’s leading goal scorer is one of the most decorated AHL forwards in the last three years, Alexandre Giroux. The 4-time AHL All-Star, two time AHL goal and point champion, and two time Calder Cup Champion, has 15 goals through 41 games.
