Mattioni received a hard check at the right wing in the Levante half but the referee let the play continue. Shortly afterwards Mattioni again had the ball and earned a corner for his team.

2-on-2 counter attack for Espanyol and Longo wasted the chance with a distance shot that just hit the side netting. Sergio García waited in a better position and the fans are not happy with Longo's selfish decision.

A similar free kick situation on the other side of the fieldand David Navarro who just caused the own goal commited an offensive foul.

Levante with the chance for a counter but a misdirected pass by El Zhar gives the ball back to Espanyol.

Martins lays on the ground and apparently he is injured as he holds his left elbow. Levante's medical staff is on the field.

Cross by Sergio García from the right wing to Simao but the Portuguese wasn't able to controll the ball before a defender stole it from his feet at the guest area.

Espanyol are doing more in the last minutes while Levante wait for counter attacks.

Nice combination by the home side. The ball was left through in the middle and from a half left position Capdevila tried it with a direct shot which was blocked at cost of a corner which led to nothing.

Simao jumps into a ball in the Levante half and he wants a free kick for a possible handball by David Navarro but it was more a foul by himself...

The corner from the right side was cleared in the first moment and then the ball came to Sergio García whose direct shot went into the air...

Finally referee Del Cerro Grande saw the injury of Barkero and he left the pitch for treatment.

In an aerial duel Barkero received a hit against the back of his head. No foul says the referee but the Levante midfielder lays on the ground and that definately hurt.

Verdú with the outside of his foot but his through ball was intercepted by a Levante defender.

Now the game has calmed down a bit for the first time and Levante try to keep the ball possession.

Both teams continue with their attacking style. Very nice begin in Barcelona.

Sergio García claims a penalty shot for handball by David Navarro. Actually the Espanyol striker touched the ball himself with his hand and only then it hit the hand of Navarro...

Espanyol Barcelona are 15th in the league table with 22 points and have come out of the worst trouble in recent weeks while their opponents Levante UD are 8th with 33 points and good chances to reach a European spot this season.

In recent months Espanyol have improved significantly and only lost one of their last eight matches - they were beaten away by league leaders FC Barcelona in the city derby (0-4). Levante won their last three home matches but on the road they also lost three times in a row and that even without scoring a single goal against Rayo Vallecano (0-3), Real Betis (0-2) and Atlético Madrid (0-2).

The head-to-head record is pretty balanced between these two teams. Usually the home team had the advantage in the past but the last four times always Levante won.

If Espanyol can make a further step out of the relegation zone or if Levante can improve their situation in the fight for a European spot, we'll see this evening.
