Bitter for Espanyol: their defender Colotto received an injury after a hit into the face by Manucho and he had to be substituted by Cristian Gómez at the end of the first half.

After an impressing 5-1-0 record in the last six matches and 16 of 18 possible points, Espanyol lost for the first time in their last away match when they were beaten 0-1 by second placed Atlético Madrid. On the other side Valladolid earned only two points in four matches before they beat Rayo Vallecano (2-1) on the road last week.
The head-to-head record shows a clear advantage for Espanyol, especially in home matches against Valladolid. In the last six years though all matches between the two teams ended with not more than one goal difference as a maximum, including four consecutive draws between the two sides.
If one of the two teams can improve their situation in the midfield of the table, we'll see in a few minutes.
