Real Valladolid were 12th before the current matchday with 34 points in 26 games. The team had a seven-point deficit towards the European spots which they could reduce today. Their opponents Málaga CF are currently 4th with 43 points. Although they are on a Chamions League qualfication spot, they won't be able to play in Europe next year - due to financial problems they were banned from participating in European competitions.

Valladolid stayed unbeaten at home against Rayo Vallecano (2-1) and away against Espanyol Barcelona (0-0) in the last two games. Málaga had two disappointing performances against Real Betis (0-3) and Atlético Madrid (0-0).
