    France was the more clever and more effective side and in the end gained a deserved 3-1 win against Austria! This is a real big point for them to avoid relegation while Austria were not able to beat the rival most experts had seen as the second weakest of the Helsinki group!

    What a wasted chance for France! After a wonderful cross-pass their team captain Laurent Meunier had the puck just in front of Starkbaum who was already on the ground but with the net wide open he only hit the goalie's right leg! Incredible!

    Finally the Austrians get onto the scoreboard! Their NHL star THOMAS VANEK was left completey alone three metres in front of the goalie! First Huet could block the shot but the rebound went straight into the wide open net! The reward for the Austrian efforts today!

    After a perfect long pass the French had a lot of space on the left wing but didn't use it well. They only had a harmless shot that was cleared to the side by Starkbaum with a pad save.
