Thank you for following the game with us! (19:55:56)

Spartak Moscow start with a three-point win into the new KHL season thanks to a very strong performance by their new goalie Jeff Glass who last year was the number 1 in Novosibirsk. Ratislav Spirko with two goals – one of them an empty netter – was the key player in the Spartak offense.

Atlant have all reason to be disappointed with their season and home opener as they failed to use even best scoring opportunities!

    Shots on goal: Atlant 12 (37) – Spartak 8 (32)

    55:00
Atlant stay the dominant team in this period but time is working against them. They only have five minutes left for the equalizer – or even more!

    54:08
Out of the blue the Atlant defense loses the puck behind their own net and Anderson almost uses this for the decision!!! Great effort by Galimov to keep the puck outside!

    53:46
A quite optimistic no look shot from the left wing by an Atlant forward went just wide.

    52:55

The Atlant power play formation doesn't work too well currently. They just had to break up an attack as several of their forwards were still in the Spartak third.

    44:31
A beautiful pass to Mayorov stays without a positive result as he was stopped unfair by Denis Bodrov while trying to score at the second post! The Spartak defender receives two minutes for holding.

    43:28
After a long pass an Atlant defender seemed to have everything under controll before he lost the puck to an opponent just in front of his own net. Lucky for him his team mate cleared the situation.

    42:10
A weird rebound from the leg of a Spartak defender almost led to an excellent scoring opportunity for Atlant but they failed to react fast enough.

    41:26
The teams don't look very happy due to this additional break just after the start of the period.

    41:26
The Spartak net left its original position and arena staff and referees try to fix it.

    40:01
    Start of 3rd period.

Spartak early in the middle period earned a one-goal lead after a nice combination between Rastislav Spirko and Matt Anderson but failed in the following time to increase their lead with several good opportunities. After they took a penatly they allowed Atlant to find back into the match and only a lot of luck and an amazing performance by Spartak goalie Jeff Glass saved them the 1-0 after 40 minutes! Stay tuned for the last 20!

    36:46
Alexei Mikhnov with THE best chance so far for Atlant! He tried to deke out Glass after coming from the right circle but failed. He then received his own rebound which first hit the pads of Glass and how it apeeared the crossbar!!

    36:17
Ilya Kablukov with a big opportunity out of nothing! He skated behind the Spartak net when a crazy bounce of the puck brought him into a good scoring position but his no look shot from 2 metres distance was blocked by the goalie!

    32:22
The next highly dangerous situation! After a strange bounce back from the boards behind the Atlant net, Igor Volkov received the puck but his wrap-around try went wide with the net being pushed out of its original position without intention by players of both teams! That was close!

    28:59
Very nice combination between three Spartak players. In the end Nikulin received the puck just right to the Atlant net but his shot with the net half open was not precise enough and Galimov who was already lay on the ice made the save!

    28:29
Igor Volkov was left alone at the right circle so that he was able to fire a blast towards the net of Galimov – nice glove save!

    27:08
Deron Quint who is very active in this game – maybe the best player of his team apart of the goalie Glass – tries it with a shot from the right wing that only finds the gloves of Galimov.

Counter opportunity for the home side over Alexei Mikhnov but in the last moment he is stopped by a defender and loses the puck.

    22:38
    Goal for Spartak!

    14:48
Harmless shot by Wandell from a central position, easily blocked by Galimov.

    14:00
Atlant with a great variation of speed. Sometimes they prepare attacks very long just to surprise their opponents with high speed in the next moment.

    12:50
Nice solo by an Atlant forward but his shot from short distance only hits the chest of Jeff Glass.

    08:25
Long clearance by the Atlant defense which didn't look very stable with a man less on the ice.

    07:48
The Spartak power play does an impressive job. They are able to create a lot of nice passes just in front of the Atlant net. The best chance so far – a half high shot by Deron Quint into the gloves of Galimov – was cleared though.

    06:43

There are high expectations for both Atlant Mytishchi and Spartak Moscow to improve their records for the 2013-14 season.

Last year Atlant finnished the regular season as 8th in the West and had just a one-point advantage towards the non-playoff spots. In the following playoffs though they stayed chanceless against regular season winners SKA St. Petersburg and lost against them in 5 games – in three of them they received 6 or more goals against.

On the other side Spartak Moscow disappointed clearly and only earned 1.0 points per game which made them end the season as 13th and thus second last of the Western Conference, leaving only Dinamo Riga behind themselves. Afterwards they were thrown out by Dinamo Minsk in the first round of Nadezhda Cup, the newly created competition for the KHL teams that missed the playoffs.

While Atlant were able to replace most of their star players who left for other teams, Spartak were able to sign top players like Tom Wandell (Dallas), Deron Quint (Traktor) or Alexander Nesterov and Igor Volkov (both Spartak).
