    Right from the very first minutes of the game both teams played a very dynamic and intense hockey with the first period ending with a 1:1 tie. In the second period Dynamo managed to build notable pressure which resulted in the game-winning goal scored by Pestushko in the middle of the game. Early in the third Jalasvaara's strong slap shot sealed the game. Metallurg desperately tried to attack, but Dynamo played intelligent, defensive hockey holding on to their lead and celebrating a well-deserved 3:1 victory.

    Gagarin Cup champion Dynamo Moscow will play already its second game of the season hosting Metallurg Magnitogorsk in their season opener.

    Two days ago Dynamo celebrated a rather comfortable 4:1 victory over Traktor Chelyabinsk, winning its second consecutive Opening Cup.

    During the off-season not only Metallurg Magnitogorsk has changed their logo, but also signed Mike Keenan as team's new head coach, meaning that tonight is going to be the first duel not only between the both teams but also their head coaches – consecutive KHL best coach award winner Olegs Znaroks and 1994 Stanley Cup champion Mike Keenan.
