Shots on goal in 3rd period (and game): Novokuznetsk 6 (11), Lev 12 (40). (16:18:11)
A shot along the ice by YEVGENI LAPENKOV might have been tipped along the way, but for now it's his goal. It goes off the post and in. Unassisted.
It is finally a goal. I think the issue was whether Hovinen was interfered with. Anwyay, it's CALLE RIDDERWALL's goal on the power play, as he tipped in a pass from the corner.
Lev has 1:10 remaining in the power play, resulting from Alexei Kosourov's check-to-the-head penalty. He'll be in the box until past the midpoint of the period serving the accompanying misconduct.

Lev taking control of this game. MARTIN SEVC gets his 2nd goal of this game, picking up a loose puck in the slot and then firing a backhander just inside the post. Assists: Michal Birner, Petr Vrana.
More unrelenting pressure and Hovinen under siege. After a goalpost earlier on the shift, NIKO KAPANEN attempts a centring pass from the corner but it hits the skate of a Novokuznetsk defenceman and deflects in behind Hovinen. Assist: Jiri Novotny.
They kept the pressure up, Hovinen made nice saves on Klepis and Nakladal, but finally they beat him. After he made a blocker save on a shot by Nakladal, the rebound came out to MARTIN SEVC, who wired a shot high blocker side to tie the score. Assists: Jakub Nakladal, Jiří Novotný.
Shots on goal in 1st period: Novokuznetsk 9, Lev Praha 11.

From the corner, a centering pass gets tipped in front by SEMYON VALUISKY, and finds space through traffic. Both teams have scored on their first power play attempts. Assists: Alexei Kosourov, Kurtis McLean
After giving up the first goal, the home team The pass from down low comes to RAFAEL AKHMETOV in front, and though he's being checked he manages to fire it high over Engren, who was down. Assist: Nikita Vyglazov
On the power play, Klepis handles the puck for a long time, draws attention to himself and finds NIKO KAPANEN at the far side, who one-times it into the open side for the game's first goal. Assists: Jakub Klepis, Jiri Novotny.

Novokuznetsk went on to miss the playoffs, finishing 10th in the Eastern Conference. Understandably, the team made some changes in the off-season and brought in some Finnish re-inforcements, namely goaltender Niko Hovinen, defenceman Tuukka Mantyla, and right winger Marko Antilla. Hovinen is the KHL´s tallest goalie at 199 cm (6´6") and at 201cm (6´7"), Antilla is the tallest player in the league. Antilla also leads the team with 5 points, followed by Yegor Martynov, another new acquisition, with 4 and Hovinen with 3. But after getting off to a good start with two straight wins, they´ve lost their last five, including four straight in regulation -- they currenty sit 12th in the conference.
As for Lev, they just finished up a four-game stand in which they took 7 of 12 points. With 15 points in eight games overall, they sit 5th in the Western Conference. With 6 points in his last five games, Martin Thörnberg is the team´s leading scorer and hottest player. After 5 goals in four games, he recorded his 1st assist of the season in Monday´s 2-1 loss to Kazan, setting up fellow Swede Nicklas Danielsson for his 1st goal of the campaign. In goal, Petri Vehanen has been steady in each of his seven starts this season, but it will be fellow Finn Atte Engren who gets his second start of the season in Novokuznetsk.
For Lev, it was quite a journey to Siberia, as bad weather caused a significant delay in Novosibirsk, and the team arrived a mere 5 hours before the game. We'll see if it affects their play.
