They gave up a late goal to lose the chance at 3 points, but they get the win in overtime to collect 2 big points in the tight Western Conference. As for Yekaterinburg, they got 2 goals from Sergei Demagin and a big performance in goal from Jakub Kovar in his home country, but this loss ends their seven-game winning streak. (21:22:30)

    Game over.

    64:18
    Goal for Lev!
After so many chances on the power play they finally cash in to end this game. MARTIN SEVC, who had a lot of shots today, fired an absolute bullet from the point, off the post and in, and judging by his reaction Kovar didn't see it at all with traffic in front.

    64:09
One-time slapper from Nathan Oystrick from the point and a round-the-world glove save by Jakub Kovar. :21 left in the penalty.

    63:45
Another chance for Klepis, one-time slapper along the ice, stick save Kovar.

    63:17
Another save Kovar, and then the puck is iced.

    62:37
Clean faceoff win for Vrana, a shot from the point by Maenpaa was either stopped by Kovar or blocked, and then Jakub Klepis fired the rebound off the post.

    62:31
Lev is now going to the power play as Sami Lepisto is heading back to the box. He wrapped up Justin Azevedo in front of the net and they jostled after the whistle and he's getting the only penalty, so Lev with a golden chance 4-on-3. Lepisto and Azevedo were at each other earlier in the game too.

    62:05
Sami Lepisto stickhandling dangerously in the Lev zone before getting stripped of the puck. He missed a good chunk of the 3rd period serving a 2+10.

    61:27
Sekac with the shot high off the glass.

    60:25
Maenpaa to Klepis, who tries to beat Kovar with a backhander to the short side but no room. Faceoff in the Avto zone.

    60:01
    Overtime began.

We're headed to overtime. Just before the final horn Martin Sevc shot from the point, but Kovar made another save, then flipped it to the corner.

Shots on goal in the 3rd period (and game): Lev 12 (27), Avtomobilist 7 (18).

Overtime begins at 21:10 CET, 15:10 EST.

    60:00
    3rd period finished.

    59:51
Klepis going for the win, but Kovar catches his wrister. The Avto goalie has been the most prominent player this game so far.

    59:20
    Icing Lev.

    57:31
    Goal for Avtomobilist!
From a scramble for the puck high in the Lev zone, the puck came out to SERGEI DEMAGIN, who used Oystrick as a screen and beat Petri Vehanen along the ice between the legs to tie this game. Assist: Fyodor Malykhin.

    55:40
Great chance for Ondrej Nemec, who took the pass at the point and it seemed like the Red Sea parted in front of him, allowing him to walk in on goal. He shot from point blank, Jan Kovar stopped him, followed by a scramble in the crease but it stayed out.

    54:17
Demagin tries to shoot, I think O'Byrne got a stick on it to deflect it high. Play contiues in the Lev zone.

    54:00
Avto shoot-in attempt goes around the glass but goes up high and into the netting. Faceoff at centre ice.

    48:47
Oystrick shoots, blocked by Demagin, he gets it back and shoots high, blocker save Kovar in the dying seconds of the penalty

    48:15
Thornberg carries it wide, centres to Zackrisson and he fires it just wide.

    47:52
Offside Lev with :57 left in the power play.

    47:27
Another big blast from the point by Martin Sevc but this time Kovar saw it all the way and had no problem handling it. 1:22 left in the Lev power play.

    47:10
Sevc shoots from the point, I think it was tipped in front by either Azevedo or Klepis, but Kovar stops and covers with 1:39 left in the penalty.

    46:49
Sami Lepisto has been Avto's most physical player all game long but now he's paying for it as he's getting called for checking to the head, which carries with it an automatic 10-minute misconduct, so he's out for almost the rest of regulation time and Lev is headed to the power play looking to widen their lead.

    46:27
And finally Kovar covers the puck and stops play under pressure.

    44:20
O'Byrne ties up Chernov behind the net, the latter yapping at the ref for a penalty but play continues.

Long wrister from Simakov along the ice, pad save Vehanen.

    40:50
Lev back at full strength, puck deep in the Avto zone.

    40:01
    Start of 3rd period.

The teams are back on the ice and the 3rd period will begin shortly. Once again, Avtomobilist will begin the period on the power play, as :45 remains in Nathan Oystrick's interference minor.

A more even second period and the teams trade goals, so Lev leads 2-1 after two.

Shots on goal in the 2nd period (and game): Lev 5 (15), Avtomobilist 7 (11).

3rd period begins at 20:37 CET, 1437 EST.

Justin Azevedo and Sami Lepisto mix it up a bit after the horn but nothing comes of it. Nothing came of the Avto power play at the end of that period, either, though they still have :45 carrying over into the third.

    40:00
    2nd period finished.

    38:45

The teams are returning to the ice and the 2nd period will start shortly.

Avtomobilist begins with almost a full power play, as Jakub Klepis went off for hooking with 3.8 seconds left in the 1st, so there's still 1:57 on the clock.

A slow start to this game but Lev started to turn it up and eventually got the period's only goal. Avto's offence was silent most of the period but they came with some pressure in the last minute and drew a penalty, so they'll start the 2nd period on the power play.

    12:18
The puck comes to Martin Thornberg at the hashmarks and he quickly snaps it toward the near post but Jakub Kovar makes another big save, this one with the blocker and then catches it with the other hand. The Avto goalie is looking good early and he has some supporters here in his home country.

    11:41
    Offside Lev.

    11:13
Now we get a pile-up in the Avto crease with the Birner-Vrana-Repik line forechecking hard as usual but Kovar keeps it out. Faceoff inside.

    10:55
A sloppy Lev change and the Avto bench is hollarish for a too-many-men call but play continues.

    Icing Avtomobilist.

    09:20

    05:45
Thornberg attemps a shot from a sharp angle, hits the side of the net.

    05:29
Avto called for offside again, as the puck came out and back in.

    05:06
Offside Avtomobilist for the game's first whistle. A cautious start to this game with not a lot of pressure.

Last season was an utter disaster for Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg. They won only 8 of 52 games and finished dead last in the KHL with 35 points. Lev won both meetings against them during the season -- first a 5-3 win in the city on the Euro-Asian border on October 1, then a 1-0 shutout win in Prague on January 6, a game that was overshadowed by the end of the NHL lockout the same day.

Things didn´t start much better this season, as they won only 4 of their first 15 games, but they´ve sure turned things around since then, and Avtomobilist motors into Prague on a seven-game winning streak. They currently sit 6th in the Western Conference with 36 points in 25 games.

"The beginning of the season was not so great, but over time we started to improve a lot," says Sami Lepistö, a player well-familiar to Lev fans. Last season, the Finnish blueliner recorded 5 points in 14 games as a Lion. So far this year, he has 12 points in 24 games to lead all Avtomobilist defencemen.

As for Lev, they got off to a great start this season, then leveled off after a sudden coaching change. With a week to practice under new bench boss Kari Jalonen, though, the team seems ready to charge out of the gate following the break.

"Gradually we began to change our game before the break," said defenceman Ondřej Němec. "The coach started to implement his system on our team before, and now we have had a lot of time to work on it. I think the last game in Atlant showed that it works."
