A strange finish to this game, but Lokomotiv wins and gets 2 points, while Lev has to settle for 1. Curtis Sanford gets his league-leading 6th shutout of the season. (21:22:29)

    Game over.

    60:56
    Goal for Lokomotiv!
SERGEI PLOTNIKOV has been credited with the goal, but there was a crowd of players around the net when it happened and no replay has been shown in the arena. Unassisted.

    60:56
Now the puck put into the Lev net and Lokomotiv pour off the bench to celebrate, but we're going to video replay.

    60:35
Shoot-in by Klepis hop in front to Novotny, who fires it just wide from alone in front.

    60:01
    Overtime began.

Well, we're still tied 0-0 after 60 minutes of hockey, Petri Vehanen and Curtis Sanford perfect so far. In fact, Vehanen has not been scored on in 120 minutes vs Lokomotiv this year, but this one's not done yet.

4-on-4 sudden-death overtime coming up. If no one scores, this game will be decided by a shootout. Overtime faceoff coming up shortly.

Mikelis Redlihs and Ondrej Nemec trying to get at each other after the horn, they're separated by the linesmen and no penalties come of it.

    60:00
    3rd period finished.

    59:16
Offside Lokomotiv on the pass, faceoff back outside their own blueline.

    58:18
Vrana with the faceoff win and O'Byrne with the shot from the point, stopped and held again by Sanford.

    58:14
Sanford stops a shot from Thornberg with traffic in front. Then Zackrisson takes a shot to the face after the whistle.

    57:08
Wrister from Ullstrom, pad save Sanford.

    56:36
Yakovlev's shoot-in gets away from him and it sails over the end glass and into the netting. Faceoff at centre ice.

    55:49
Sevc leads another Lev rush, drops for Zackrisson who winds and fires a slapper, but it's deflected out of play. Faceoff in the Loko zone.

    54:35
Back the other way, Galimov's shot lands on the back of the net. Some people in the building thought it was in the net, but no. Faceoff inside, as it was apparently deflected.

    54:15
Lev 4th line threatens. The shot from Pacovsky hits the bottom of Sanford's glove and dribbles just wide of the post.

    53:56
Offside Lev. We had a hit after the whistle and now some pushing and shoving. There was some emotion earlier in the game but it had settled down somewhat until now. Nothing comes of this, though. It seems the referees have put the whistles away.

    53:36
Lev shoot-in hits a glove on the Loko bench, faceoff outside the blueline.

    45:57
The puck is frozen under a pile of players deep in the Lev zone. Faceoff inside.

    45:37
Offside Lev and immediately upon the whistle Sandford goes over and has words with the referee, obviously he's upset that there was no penalty call against Klepis. I didn't see exactly how the collision happened.

    44:53
Now a collision between Jakub Klepis and Curtis Sandford in the Loko crease, both players go down, play continues with no call.

Offside Lev on the shoot-in, faceoff at centre ice.

    40:01
    Start of 3rd period.

The teams are returning to the ice and the 3rd period will begin shortly.

Another defensive period of hockey, with both teams especially strong on the penalty kill.

Shots on goal in the 2nd period (and game): Lev 10 (19), Lokomotiv 8 (14).

Jiri Sekac coming back onto the ice for the first time since taking that big hit from Pashnin.

    35:55
    Offside Lokomotiv.

Jiri Sekac now back on the Lev bench, so he's ok to play it seems. We'll see if he returns to the ice this period.

    34:27
Another shorthanded rush by Lev, Zackrisson with the high wrister, Sanford traps it against his body to stop play with just :06 left in their power play, Loko backed up in their own zone.

    33:56
Lev with the shorthanded rush but Novotny fans on the shot.

    33:12
Icing Lokomotiv with 1:21 left in their power play.

    33:05
Topi Jaakola fires a slapper just as the first penalty ends, Sanford catches it and puts it back in play as his team goes to the power play.

    32:33
The Lev power play is over as Martin Thornberg is called for interference as the team enters the zone. It looked more like the Loko player backed into him. but nonetheless, we have 4-on-4 for :33.

    28:57
Gragnani across to Oystrick, wrister and a blocker save by Sanford.

    28:06
It's a major penalty for checking to the head and a game misconduct for Mikhail Pashnin, so a five-minute power play for Lev coming up. I don't see Sekac on the bench anywhere, he seems to be out of the game for now.

    28:06
A huge hit by Mikhail Pashin on Jiri Sekac just inside the Loko line. Sekac still down. Pashnin going to the penalty box, we'll see if it's a minor or a major.

    20:01
    Start of 2nd period.

The teams are on the ice and the second period will start shortly.

We'll begin the period 4-on-4, with 1:36 left in Ridderwall's minor and 1:55 left in Musatov's.

A physical, defensive period of hockey, which is to be expected with these two teams -- especially Lokomotiv, who have the league's best defence and worst offence.

Shots on goal in 1st period: Lev 9, Lokomotiv 6 (4 by Apalkov).

    Faceoffs: Lev 12/15 (Vrana 4/4), Lokomotiv 3/15.

Icetime leaders: Lev – Jaakola 7:43, Lokomotiv – Pashnin 6:24.

2nd period begins at 19:49 CET, 13:49 EST.

    20:00
    1st period finished.

    19:54
The Lokomotiv power play is over quickly as Igor Musatov is called for high sticking, so we'll likely finish this period 4-on-4.

    19:35
We've now got a Lev penalty to Calle Ridderwall for interference, right off a faceoff in his own zone, so Lokomotiv to the power play for the first time.

    19:20
Sekac with a big hit on Gorokhov, Loko bench up in arms thinking there should've been a penalty, play continues.

    18:22

    16:22
Lokomotiv's Staffan Kronwall is getting the game's first penalty for high sticking in the attacking zone, so Lev to the power play.

Vadim Khlopotov with a chance in front, Vehanen keeps it out with the paddle down, then Lev gets called for icing.

    10:13
Igor Musatov wrists it wide from the slot.

    09:51
Repik with a wraparound attempt, Sanford gives him nothing.

    08:42
Now the puck is deflected out of play in the Lokomotiv zone, faceoff inside.

    08:30
Faceoff win for Zackrisson, Juraj Mikus with the shot from the point, pad save Sanford.

    08:24
    Icing Lokomotiv.

    08:08
No goal is the call. Faceoff in the Lev zone to Vehanen's left.

    08:08
Action in front of Vehanen but he manages to cover it for a whistle.

They're now checking upstairs, although to be honest it didn't even look close to going in. We'll see what the result is.

    07:15
Martin Sevc down the right wing fires a wrister, pad save Sanford. Sevc is a big, physical defenceman who is also prone to lead the rush.

The national anthems of the Russian Federation and Czech Republic are complete, and the opening faceoff is moments away.

Lev Praha is wearing their home red uniforms with blue and white trim, white numerals and lion logo, red NY Rangers-style pants and blue helmets. Lokomotiv Yaroslavl is wearing their road white uniforms with red and blue trim, red numerals and famous "A" logo, red pants and white helmets.

    Starting Lineups:

Lev Praha: Vehanen (Lukáš) – Ševc, Gragnani, Oystrick, Němec, Jaakola, O'Byrne, Mikuš – Azevedo, Novotný, Ullström – Sekáč, Zackrisson, Thörnberg – Ridderwall, Vrána, Klepiš – Pacovský, Cingel, Řepík – Matai

Lokomotiv Yaroslavl: Sanford (Kolesnik) – Lyubushkin, Gorokhov, Kronwall, Pashnin, Yakovlev, Holos, Vishnevsky, Zotov – Konkov, Apalkov, Plotnikov – Musatov, Khlopotov, Rēdlihs – Chernikov, Petrov, Galimov – Korneyev, Kapustin, Maltsev

Referees: Vasiliev, Kulakov Linesmen: Alyoshin, Nesterov.

Lev Praha has had a fair bit of success against Lokomotiv Yaroslavl so far, taking 7 of 9 possible points in three meetings dating back to last year. In their meeting earlier this year in Yaroslavl on October 26, Lev turned in a dominant road performance, outshooting Lokomotiv 41-17. Petri Vehanen stopped every shot he faced and the visitors got goals from Marc-André Gragnani and Patrik Zackrisson to win 2-0.

That game was reflective of the main problem that has plagued Lokomotiv this season -- they are currently last in the KHL with only 59 goals scored in 32 games. Amazingly, they remain in a playoff position because they have also surrendered only 59 goals -- best in the league.

One of the biggest reasons for the team´s strong defensive numbers has been the play of Curtis Sanford in goal. Lev got a taste of that in October when he stopped 39 of 41 shots, and his numbers are right near the top of the league. His .948 save percentage is second-best in the KHL, his 1.56 goals-against average is tied for second best, and his 5 shutouts are tied for tops with three other goalies. Backup Vitali Kolesnik´s numbers are also respectable when he´s called into action.

Offensively, only three players on the team have made double digits in points: Sergei Plotnikov with 18, Daniil Apalkov with 15 and Yegor Averin with 10. Swede Staffan Kronwall leads defencemen with 8 points, while Alexei Vasiliev has 7 points and leads the club with 4 power-play goals.

David Ullström had 4 points in 18 games with Lokomotiv, but since coming over to Lev he has found a home on the top line, showing great chemistry with Justin Azevedo and Jiří Novotný.

Welcome. This game starts at 19:00 CET local time in Prague, 22:00 MSK in Yaroslavl, 13:00 EST.

    Derek OBrien
