The Slovaks put up a valiant fight, but the Americans just had too much depth for them to handle, and they eventually pulled away in the end. The Americans improve their record to 2-0, while the Slovaks drop to 1-1.
This Slovak line strikes again, as Griger with the pass out front to MARTIN REWAY, who backhands it through the pads of Gillies. It's too late to make a difference in the outcome, but they'll feel a bit better. Assist: David Griger.
RILEY BARBER takes a nice feed from Copp, out of the reach of a Slovak defenceman, and fires it low glove side for the 6th US goal. Assists: Andrew Copp, Nicolas Kerdiles.
The pressure continued and that might put this game away. Copp fed STEFAN MATTEAU in front from down low and he fired a beautiful wrister under the crossbar. Assists: Andrew Copp, Hudson Fasching.
Against the flow of play, the Americans get some breathing room. Carrick's shot went wide and then took a funny bounce off the end boards that went right to MATT GRZELCYK in front, he put it in with Sabol going the wrong way. Assists: Connor Carrick, Tomas DiPauli.
The Americans still have exactly half of a power play left, and they're a perfect 3/3 in the game so far, and 5/6 to the tournament at this point.
The Americans scored a third-straight power-play goal early in the period and it looked like they might run away with this game, but Slovakia battled back with two power-play markers of their own now and have cut the deficit to 1, but they still have another half of a US power play to kill off at the start of the third.
3rd period starts at 15:20 CET, 09:20 EST.
One-goal game now, as Kolena knocked the puck out of skates and got a shot on goal, but MARTIN REWAY had a couple of whacks at the rebound and finally put it in. Power-play goal. Assists: Milan Kolena, David Griger.
The Slovaks finally cash in on the power play, Cehlarik with the initial shot and captain MILAN KOLENA was in front for the rebound. Power-play goal. Assist: Peter Cehlarik
I was just about ready to say that the Americans didn't get much going on that power play, but they got it together in the late going and score with :05 left. Butcher dropped to RYAN HARTMAN, who fired a one-time slapper high stick side. Power-play goal. Assists: Will Butcher, Jack Eichel.
I'd say at least 7 of those American shots came directly off of faceoff wins in the attacking zone, where they have utterly dominated. The Slovaks looked good for a while but they couldn't handle the American power play, which is how they've scored both goals.
2nd period begins at 14:31 CET, 08:31 EST.
The Americans with all sorts of pressure on the power play again and the Slovaks were just hoping to get to the horn with out another goal against, but DANIEL O'REAGAN put in a rebound at the side of the net with less than a second remaining. Another power-play goal. Assists: Matt Grzelcyk, Nicolas Kerdiles.
Ryan Hartman led a rush down the right wing passed into the slot and JACK EICHEL fired it low stick side on Sabol to open the scoring. Power-play goal. Assists: Ryan Hartman, Will Butcher.

The Americans started strong against the Czechs, scoring two goals in the first two minutes, then cruised to a 5-1 win. They got goals from five different sources and 13 players had 1 point, nobody more. Jon Gillies stopped 23 of 24 shots and gets the start again this game.
The Slovaks, meanwhile, were utterly dominant against Germany, crushing them 9-2. David Grieger and Martin Reway led the way with 4 points each, and are the co-scoring leaders of the tournament. Marko Dano and Milan Kolena scored twice each. Richard Sabol stopped 19 of 21 shots, and gets the start again.
The USA is the clear favourite of this game, but one never knows.
