    00:01
    Game started.

    00:50
Jakub Vrana attemps a shot for the Czechs but fires a backhander high and wide. Both teams still shotless.

    01:30
Big hit along the nearside boards and Canada's Sam Reinhart was down. The entire Czech bench is standing so I couldn't see who it was.

    01:48
    Offside Canada.

    02:00
Taylor Leier with Canada's first shot, pad save Langhammer.

    03:14

    04:15
Patrik Marcel with a good stiff check in the neutral zone . . . a lot of early hitting this game.

    04:37
The puck is deflected out of play in the Czech zone, faceoff inside.

    05:20
Anthony Mantha tries to lead a rush but can't break free, sends a low backhander wide.

    06:20
Ekblad's shot is deflected, off the pad of Langhammer and Lazar is knocked down trying to get to the rebound.

    06:57
Vrana sends another shot high and wide.

    07:10
    Goal for Team Czech Republic!
The Czechs got possession in the zone when DAVID KAMPF won a battle along the boards and eventually Ondrej Kase fed it back to him in front, and he backhanded it in from the slot along the ice. Assist: Ondrej Kase.

    07:25
    Offside Canada.

    08:16
Czech rush, Simon drops for Tomecek and his shot is right on Paterson, who holds it.

    08:45
Quick shot by Leier from the top of the circle, off Langhammer's right pad through traffic.

    09:30
Slapper from Kerby Reichel from the left wing, pad save, then the puck when to the corner and there was a big hit, which drew reaction from the crowd.

    09:52
Finally Langhammer covers with Canada applying pressure.

Patrik Marcel was assessed a boarding penalty on the play, so Canada gets the game's first power play.

    10:45
Drouin tried to find Mantha at the far side, misfires. We'll surely see that combination again.

    11:20
Czechs ice and both units change up.

    11:58
Just after the Czech penalty ended Matt Dumba fired a shot of the goalpost.

    12:20
Czechs rush back the other way and David Patrnak rips a shot just wide.

    13:43
David Kampf with the wrister from long range, Paterson holds on.

    13:59
The Czechs getting their second penalty of this game as Dominik Volek heads off for holding. The Czechs have their hands full with Canada in their own end and this might be a pattern that gets repeated throughout the game.

    15:00
Czechs ice for the second time on this penalty kill, Canada still shotless.

    15:11
The puck is frozen along the boards in the Czech zone and there'll be a faceoff inside with :48 left in the penalty.

    15:35
McDavid circles the net and centres for Reinhart, who fires a quick shot off Langhammer's pad.

They had trouble getting the power play going but sure got the pressure on in the late going and cash in with :09 left. The puck is moved around the perimeter and Bo Horvat centred in front to SAM REINHART, who snapped it home to tie the score. Power-play goal. Assists: Bo Horvat, Connor McDavid.

    16:45
We're now getting penalties following a scrum in front of the Canada bench, Scott Laughton of Canada and Radek Faksa of the Czech Republic, so we'll play 4-on-4.

    16:58
    Offside Canada.

    17:41
Morrissey goes hard to the net for Canada but Langhammer goes down and keeps it out.

    18:37
Connor McDavid with the steal down low, feed in front to Derrick Pouliot and Marek Langhammer denies him.

    20:00
    1st period finished.

Shots on goal in the 1st period: Canada 13, Czech Republic 5.

An energetic start to this game with lots of physical play, which has this overwhelmingly pro-Canada crowd revved up. The score is 1-1 after a period, but Canada giving the Czechs fits in their own end -- they've taken two penalties trying to keep them at bay, the second one leading to the tying goal.

2nd period starts at 18:25 CET, 12:25 EST.

The teams are returning to the ice and the 2nd period will start shortly.

    20:01
    Start of 2nd period.

    20:25
Petr Sidlik of the Victoriaville Tigres with the slapper from the point, stick save Paterson.

    20:54
Now a Czech shoot-in gets deflected out of play, though they're indicating a faceoff outside the blueline, so maybe it wasn't tipped.

    21:50
Really physical shift for Canada's Curtis Lazar, who threw about 4 hits.

    22:20
A scramble around the Canada net but the puck is cleared.

Radek Faksa shoots from the corner, Paterson traps it against his body and holds on.

    23:45
Jonathan Drouin sneaks in and shoots, a crowd of players in front and I'm not sure it got through.

    23:53
    Offside Canada.

    24:00
Now the Czechs go back the other way and they go offside too.

    24:35
Sidlik tries to find Knot going to the net, re-directs it just wide.

    25:14

Puck goes out of play and the faceoff is in the neutral zone.

    25:36
Puck goes out of play again and the faceoff is in the Canadian zone with :36 left in the penalty.

    26:25
Canada back at full strength, Bo Horvat is set up for a big chance but he can't get a handle on the shot, and is angry at himself as he goes to the bench without getting a shot off.

    27:25
Morrissey a shot from the point, hits Langhammer.

    27:40

    Icing Czech Republic.

    28:05
Pelech winds and fires from the point, sails wide.

    28:23
Turnover and Drouin goes to the net with it but can't get a shot off as the puck is poke-checked away from him at the last moment.

    29:02
    Icing Czech Republic.

    29:19
Now the puck hits a stick and hits the low ceiling here at Malmo Isstadion. Faceoff in the Czech zone.

    33:27
Puck again deflected out of play, this time the faceoff is outside the Czech zone.

    34:50
Czechs back the other way, puck fed to Vojtech Tomecek in front but his shot misses high, Paterson might have gotten a piece of it.

    35:15
Now Connor McDavid takes a hooking penalty just after Paterson made a pad save. Czechs to the power play.

    35:42
    Sidlik rips a one-timer wide.

    36:03
Now the puck worked to the point to Maritn Prochazka and his slapper is right on Paterson with traffic in front. A lot of battling going on in front of that net. 1:12 left in the Czech power play.

    36:50
Now a pass attempt to the point is deflected away by Josh Anderson and Canada' is able to change up the PK unit.

    37:16
    Goal for Team Czech Republic!
One second after the penalty ends, they cash in. First Ronald Knot centred it out front and somebody hit the post, then it went back to the point and MICHAL PLUTNAR's shot went just under the crossbar. It seemed to change direction so it might not remain his goal, but for now it is.

    38:31
Now Martin Prochazka is called for holding in his own zone, so Canada to the power play with a chance to tie it before the intermission. They're 1/2 so far.

    38:57
The puck is covered up deep in the Canadian zone, faceoff outside.

    39:14
Canada go up ice quickly and we end up with a big pile up in the crease, some people start celebrating but it's no goal.

    39:14
We're now going to video replay, apparently.

But the verdict is back quickly -- no goal.

    39:14
Also, Canada's Matt Dumba is getting a roughing penalty on the play, so their power play is over and we'll probably finish the period 4-on-4.

    40:00
    2nd period finished.

We've got some pushing and shoving after the whistle, as a Canadian player shot the puck after the horn. Captains Laughton and Sidlik are now talking to the referees as the rest of their teams leave for the intermission, so I'm not sure if there's any penalties coming.

Shots on goal in the 2nd period (and game): Canada 5 (18), Czech Republic 11 (16).

The Czechs seem every bit as fired up by this crowd as the Canadians, and thanks to some power plays they were the better team that second period. Of course, you can imagine Canada will come with quite a push in the third period.

3rd period begins at 19:16 CET, 13:16 EST.

    40:00
Michal Plutnar is getting the only penalty on that fracas at the end of the second period for roughing. He was trying to get to Connor McDavid, who had taken a late shot on goal.

The teams now returning to the ice and the 3rd period will start shortly.

Canada will begin the period with a 4-on-3 advantage ... barring no more penalties or goals it will then go to 4-on-4 after :31 and eventually be a 5-on-4.

    41:40
Play in the Czech zone as Canada on the power play again and Sam Reinhart fires a one-timer off the post.

    42:08
Langhammer makes another save before the Czechs clear the zone to kill off the rest of the penalty. The Czechs re-enter the Canadian zone and Paterson makes a save and freezes.

    42:30
Big hip check by Marcel on Anderson in the neutral zone.

    42:57
    Icing Czech Republic.

    44:01
Libor Sulak getting the gate for holding, and Canada once again goes back to the power play.

    44:05
That was a very quick power play as Connor McDavid hooks the stick of Jan Kostalek as he checks him and gets called for hooking.

Canada trying to apply pressure in the Czech zone, getting possession around the perimeter but not getting shots through.

    48:26
Plutnar with the wrister from the point, Paterson catches and holds it.

    49:10
Marcel with a long shot through traffic, pad save Paterson.

    49:48
Pavel Zacha tries to cut in, Eklbad loses his stick trying to check him, the puck goes back to the point and the shot is stopped and held by Paterson.

    50:15
Dumba to Drouin for the one-timer just misses, then back to Dumba and he fires a slapper, pad save Langhammer.

    50:29
    Icing Canada.

    50:51
Canada now being penalised for too many players on the ice, as the puck came to the bench as they were changing and I guess someone played it. Czechs to the power play.

    51:09
    Goal for Team Canada!
Canada with the shorthanded goal. First Laughton drove to the net with the puck, it went wide but then came out to AARON EKBLAD, who took a chance and pinched while killing a penalty and it paid off. Assist: Scott Laughton, Curtis Lazar.

    52:10
Pumped by that shorthanded goal, Canada now doing an effective job of killing the penalty.

    52:41
Puck deflected out of play in the Canadian zone with just :10 left in the penalty.

    52:45
    Goal for Team Czech Republic!
They answer right back again. There's no clear winner of the draw but it's fed back to the point to PETR VRANA, who fires an absolute rocket high to the stick side on Paterson. Power-play goal.

    53:01
    Goal for Team Canada!
This is just insanity now. :16 after the Czechs score, th Canadians tie it right back up. After the initial drive is stopped the puck is fed back to CHARLES HUDON, who blasts it in.

    53:13
    Offside Czech Republic.

And we've got the wave going now inside the Isstadion.

    53:23
Now off the draw Curtis Lazar drives hard to the net with the puck and crashes into Czech goalie Marek Langhammer is down. The training staff is tending to him. There doesn't appear to be any penalty on the play.

    52:23
He appears to be OK and we're ready to go again, faceoff in the Czech zone.

    54:24
A Czech clearing attempt goes out of play but the linesman emphatically emphasises that it hit the top of the glass, so no penalty but faceoff inside.

    54:48
Tomecek makes a nifty move with the puck inside the Canadian line, his shot is deflected in the air and Paterson catches it, then we get some more pushing after the whistle.

Quickly back the other way, Paterson makes the save and hangs on again.

    58:25
Kampf with the weak-angle backhander, stick save Paterson, Canada back the other way . . .

    59:14
The puck goes out of play and the faceoff is sent outside.

    60:00
    3rd period finished.

What an absolutely wild third period . . . words can't describe it in the little time I have. Just go back and read it.
