Finland and Switzerland both missed the direct qualification in group A for the semifinals of the women's tournament of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi but due to the new format they were already qualified automatically for the quarterfinals where they'll face the two winners of group B – Russia and Sweden – just it stays open who meets who.

While Finland was able to keep the results against the North American top favourites Canada (0-3 after two scoreless inning) and USA (1-3) close, the Swiss team was chanceless in both occassions (0-5 against Switzerland and 0-9 against USA): This gives Finland not only the role as the favourites in this last group match but also for the semifinals while Switzerland has to fear a defeat against the teams of group B.
