    With a very passionate performance in the third period the Swedes were able to throw higher-ranked Finland out of the medal hunt! After a Swedish double the Fins came back just 12 seconds later but in the end a blue line shot by Emma Eliasson and the following empty netter by Emma Nordin send Sweden into the semifinals which means that they will fight at least for a bronze medal! In the semifinals they will play against Team USA while Finland goes into the placement round for position 5 to 8 where they face Germany!

    Late in the second period Venla Hovi had received a two minute penalty and so her team had to start with a woman less on the ice into the third period which is punished by the Swedes very fast! After a shot by Emma Nordin from within the slot Noora Raty allowed a rebound which came to ANNA BORGQVIST whose shot from close to the right circle went into the right bottom corner after being deflected by a defender who slided in between!

    The hot stage of the women's ice hockey tournament at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi starts with the quarterfinal game between neighbours and archrivals Finland and Sweden.

    The Fins became 3rd group A where the higher ranked teams played who were automatically qualified for the quarterfinals – the two first of group A made it directly to the semifinals. They showed against the gold medal favourites USA (1-3) and Canada (0-3) that they are able to close the gap before defeating Switzerland (4-3 OT).

    Sweden became 2nd in the weaker group B and was allready qualified after two matches for the quarterfinals after beating Japan (1-0) and Germany (4-0). The last group match against hosts Russia (1-3) they lost though.

    There are no real favourites in this game. Let's see who makes it to the semifinals!
