Japan have run out of time, and Germany have claimed 7th place at this year's Olympic Games with a 3-2 win! Susann Gotz got the ball rolling midway through the third period but Japan responded with a goal from Hanae Kubo. Germany took control of the game in the second period after goals from Julia Zorn and Sara Seiler, and despite Haruna Yoneyama's response the Japanese couldn't tie this one up. Thanks for following the game with us, and join me later for Russia against Norway at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi! (11:10:04)

    47:17
Konishi plucks a long pass in towards her net to freeze for a faceoff

    44:50
Gotz tries her luck from the point and succeeds in only warming Konishi's pads

    42:56

    35:08
Low pass into the Japanese crease and Takeuchi is in place to clear the danger

    34:49
The puck is still in the German zone and they only just avoid conceding their second goal! Rui Ukita hits the goalkeeper's pads from a tight angle, and then Kondon attempts to skate clean through, hits it early into Harss's body and at the second attempt she clings on!

    33:42
Japan get set up well in the zone and Harss gets luck a couple of times as she can't see the puck well as it comes in through traffic!

    31:07
The Japanese are back at full strength and they will need not to give away more needless fouls

    30:52
Fujimoto does well to not drop a heavy slapper from Evers. The German powerplay is looking strong today

    25:30
Harss tips a slapshot right in front of her and her defenders manage to get to the rebound first!

    24:30

    23:42
Japan have been caught out for having too many players on the ice here and they're going on the penalty kill

    22:21
Ani Nakamura steals the puck from a German attack, skates all the way through to the other end and forces Harss into a low comfortable glove save

    21:43
Germany have killed that penalty well though and they're back to full strength

    20:01

Japan have a powerplay opportunity here, Eisenschmid for interference has been sent to the penalty box

    16:50
Good puck movement from the Germans, it eventually gets sent back to the point and after a couple of ricochets Fujimoto sends it away with her stick

    15:24
Germany try to respond to that goal but Japan are defending well today and not giving their opponents space to create

    13:40
Goal for Team Japan! We're all tied up! Harss kicks the puck out after a pass into the crease from the point and HANAE KUBO is there to tuck the rebound home, it's 1-1! Assists- Chiho Osawa

    12:30
Osawa holds the puck away from her opposing defenders but can't squeeze in a shot. She definitely has been the most lively Japanese player at this tournament

    11:51
The puck is bouncing all around the German crease and the goalkeeper only just manages to put it wide in time!

    09:18
Goal for Team Germany! It's the breakthrough! The Japanese netminder Fujimoto can't hold on to a drive from distance, it bounces up and over her shoulder and SUSANN GOTZ manages to poke it home, powerplay goal and it's 1-0! Assists- Franziska Busch

    09:13
Straight after Japan had some good time in the attacking zone they're going back on the penalty kill, Kubo for hooking has been penalised by the referees

Aoki! Good chance for Japan but from the top of the crease she can only hit the body of the goalkeeper when looking for the far post!

    06:20
Icing from Germany. Both sides need to control the puck better when in posession

    05:42

    03:42
Germany have an early powerplay opportunity here though, Aoki for interference has been called

    02:10
