Just when Jan Laco left the Slovakian net for an additional skater TOMAS PLEKANEC hits the empty net with a shot from the left circle!
CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?!?!?!?! Slovakia score their 3rd goal of the night and their second within 90 seconds! After a pass by Milan Bartovic from close to the left circle it is Tomas Surovy whose one-timer from within the slot beats Ondrej Pavelec!
Assisted by Andrej Sekera and Milan Bartovic.
Tomas Tatar receives a pass at the left circle, with his back towards the net his back hander is blocked by Ondrej Pavelec but the rebound comes to MARIAN HOSSA who fires the puck into the right corner from short distance! 4-2 now only and the Slovakians are back in the game!
Assisted by Tomas Tatar and Michal Handzus.
Shots on goal: Czech Republic 8 (21) – Slovakia 10 (17)
The Slovaks try it with some offense again and after a brilliant pass by Michal Handzus from behind the net it is Slovakian star forward MARIAN HOSSA who beats Ondreje Pavelec from short distance! 4-1 – at least the consolation goal for the Slovaks! If they want more than that they have to show a different face in the last 20 minutes of play!
Assisted by Andrej Sekera and Michal Handzus.
Slovakian defender Andrej Sekera loses the puck inside the neutral zone and ROMAN CERVENKA is through with a break away! He waited long and then deked out Jan Laco to the right and beat him into the left corner with a back hander from a sharp angle – 4-0 for the Czechs and probably the decisive goal!
Without assist.
Shots on goal: Czech Republic 13 – Slovakia 7
Seven seconds later DAVID KREJCI gets another chance and this time he uses it! After a pass from the blue line by Radko Guas he fires a one-timer from the left circle into the left top corner just below the crossbar – 3-0 for the Czechs!!!
Assisted by Tomas Kaberle and Radko Gudas.
Tomas Plekanec is sent inside the neutral zone, dekes out several opponents and in the 1-on-1 with Laco hits only the left post with a back hander but the puck stays in play and with the rebound ROMAN CERVENKA makes everything clear for the 2-0 lead for the Czech Republic – just 29 seconds after the first goal!
Assisted by Jaromir Jagr and Tomas Plekanec.
Just 15 seconds were played in the power play when the Czechs scored the 1-0! After the Slovakians failed to clear a blue line shot, the goalie Jan Laco was out of position for a moment and Jakub Voracek with a pass from the right circle found ALES HEMSKY in front of the goalie crease who scored into the wide open net!
Assisted by Tomas Kaberle and Jakub Voracek.

The Slovakians lost all their three group matches to finish last in group A with just one point. After a humiliating 1-7 defeat against Team USA to open the tournament, they received another setback against outsiders Slovenia (1-3) before they were able to keep the game open against hosts Russia (0-1 after shootout).
The good thing for both teams is the current tournament format as no team had to leave Sochi after the group stage and every of the 12 teams still can win the gold medal. While the top 4 teams of the three groups qualified automatically for the quarterfinals the other 8 teams have to play a quarterfinal qualification first. And this is what the Czechs and the Slovaks will do this evening!
The winner of this match will play against Team USA in the quarterfinals!
