    After Zaripov's 2-0 early in the third period, everything looked like Metallurg would win this match in regulation but afterwards Sibir took over the initiative and Metallurg were too defensive. A double within less than one and a half minutes by Sibir players Konstantin Alexeyev and Ivan Lekomtsev send this game into overtime! For Metallurg it is the 4th (!) consecutive overtime in the 2013-14 Gagarin Cup playoffs!

    Metallurg Magnitogorsk won the first spot in Eastern Conference in the regular season with impressive 108 points in 54 games. In the first playoff round they beat league newcomers and outsiders Admiral Vladivostok after a hard fight with overtimes in each of the last three games with 4 games to 1.

    Sibir Novosibirsk finished as 6th in the Eastern Conference with 87 points in 54 games. In the first round of the playoffs they beat 2009 and 2010 Gagarin Cup winners Ak Bars Kazan sensationally with 4 games to 2.

    As team with the best regular season record still left in the competition, Metallurg Magnitogorsk are also favourites in the Eastern Conference semifinals against Sibir Novosibirsk but the guests from Siberia have shown already their qualities to stop favourites.
