    In the this tournament unlike in the Gagarin Cup playoffs the team that wins three games first will be crowned Nadezhda Cup champions.
     
    Today's hosts Dinamo have treated the Nadezhda Cup with real respect, and in the first round they beat Slovan 1-0 and 2-1 to progress to the next round. There they saw off Atlant 4-1, 5-0 and 2-1 to make it through to the semifinals where they put paid to the challenge of Severstal with a 3-1 series win. Avangard as a result of their 10th placed finish in the regular season came into the tournament later than Dinamo and they started off with a 3-1 series win over Yugra, before beating Traktor also 3-1 to make it through to the final.
     
    Dinamo Minsk had a rather disappointing regular season finishing in bottom of the Western Conference with 53 points. Avangard are a club that are used to Gagarin Cup playoff action but they shockingly failed to make the playoffs finishing up in tenth place of the Eastern Conference on 69 points.
     
    The Nadezhda Cup is a tournament only possible to compete in if you didn't qualify for the Gagarin Cup playoffs, but it's a fantastic opportunity for some of the smaller KHL sides to grab some real success for themselves while offering excellent game practice instead of going on your holidays early.
