    19:30 Krefeld Pinguine – Skellefteå AIK 1:2
    19:30 Vienna Capitals – Färjestad Karlstad 4:1
    19:45 Genève-Servette – Frölunda Gothenburg 4:3

19:45 Diables Rouges Briançon – Villach SV 1:2
    20:00 SønderjyskE Vojens – IFK Helsinki 4:5so
20:00 Bílí Tygři Liberec – Kärpät Oulu 3:4
    20:05 Djurgården Stockholm – Fribourg-Gottéron 5:4ot
    20:05 Växjö Lakers – Adler Mannheim 6:1

    22:44
And shootout victory goes to Finnish capital. Tomáš Záborský scored game winning goal for IFK Helsinki and hard work of home side SønderjyskE Ishockey, who did lead 3:0 after first period, resulted only to single point for overtime loss.

    22:41
Mikael Samuelsson, Triple gold club member and player with more than 800 NHL games scores a game-winning overtime goal for Djurgården. Another story of big return of this inaugural CHL gameday. After coming back from 1-3 Djurgården records 2 points to the standings, Fribourg-Gottéron one. Djurgården Stockholm – Fribourg-Gottéron 5:4 after overtime.

    22:37
SønderjyskE Ishockey – IFK Helsinki goes to penalty shootout.

    22:36
Fribourg equalized in their game at Stockholm, so that one went to overtime, too. Two games still live.

    22:32
Växjö logs an impressive opening 6-1 victory over Adler Mannheim. Alexander Johansson contributed two goals.

Two games still in progress and both 4:4. SønderjyskE Ishockey – IFK Helsinki went to overtime when IFK equalized in 60th minute, Djurgården Stockholm – Fribourg-Gottéron is a seconds shy away from overtime.

    22:24
The atmosphere is really hot at Les Vernets as Servette won 4:3. Fans are singing and clapping, this first CHL match was intense not only for players. But Geneva must pay attention for future games: having 3 goals to 0 doesn't mean you must win the game. Frölunda did try all their best and almost came back. But in the end, Geneva won 4-3.

    22:20
And there is big drama unfolding in Denmark! SønderjyskE holding on to a potentially huge upset against IFK Helsinki. 4-3 up with three minutes to go, the Finnish side is on a powerplay.

    22:16
Different fortunes for Swedish clubs late in the day. Frölunda loses the game at Geneve despite late comeback, but Vaxjo leads Mannheim 6-1 and Djurgården just took the lead in the game against Fribourg. 4-3 the current score.

    22:17
Bílí Tygři Liberec – Kärpät Oulu 3:4 final score. Liberec managed to get back into the game after a disastrous 0:4 start. They replaced goalie Lašák with Schwarz, but Oulu secured their victory at the end.

    22:11
Djurgården ties the game against Fribourg after goals from Holmqvist and Ljungh. What a comeback early in the third period!

    22:08
Post game comments from Krefeld – Skellefteå game:
Herberts Vasiljevs (captain, Krefeld Pinguine): "In the second period, the Swedish team got better. We made a few mistakes and it cost us the game. We need more structure in our game. We can't let the other guys to do what they want like they did."

Hans Wallson (coach, Skellefteå AIK): "It was a tough game. Krefeld was better in the first period, but then we started growing. We're happy to win. We have twelve new players and it was a difficult game to win."

    22:06
SaiPa wins in Zug with a narrow 2-1 margin. Nearby Zurich is more succesful and beats Vålerenga Oslo 4:1.
Game over in Briançon, 1:2. Diables Rouges' fans are unhappy, most likely also this supporter from Boston.

    22:04
Stakes for Liberec are rising, Michal Bulíř's third point in the game created a goal opportunity for Martin Bartek, who made it 3:4 for White Tigers against Kärpät Oulu with 8 minutes to go in the third period.

    22:01
And VSV Villach goes on top with Brook McBride who made it 2:1 just three minutes to go in Briançon. That was quick.

    22:00
And it's getting more interesting also in Briançon, where VSV's forward John Lammers equalizes the game in the third period.

    21:56
It's final in Krefeld, Penguins lost to Skellefteå AIK 1:2. Great start for Swedish side from the north, who are reigning Swedish champions and one of the favorites of the CHL. Erik Andersson scored the game winning goal in 50th minute.

    21:55
Another two final results on the board: Skellefteå wins 2-1 at Krefeld while Vienna celebrates after a 4-1 victory over Färjestad.

    21:53
Drama coming up in Denmark where IFK are now just one goal behind SønderjyskE. Robert Leino scores after just 18 seconds of the third period.

    21:48
Another two games are nearing the end. Skelleftea holds a narrow 2-1 lead in Krefeld while Vienna protects a 3-1 lead over Färjestad. Is there a late drama?

    21:42
But Košice did not succeed, despite a big scramble in front of aus den Birken, the Kölner netminder. So the final score is 2:1, Haie win!

    21:42
Kolner Haie – Košice 2:1 in the last minute, Košice plays with empty net.

    21:38
Växjö Lakers leads 2-1 with German side Adler Mannheim. Will a fairy tale of Växjö continue? Club has been playing in the Swedish Elitserien for mere 3 seasons but already managed to win a CHL spot. Read the Växjö Lakers story here.

    21:33
With 10 minutes to go, Skelleftea takes a lead in Krefeld thanks to Erik Andersson. Meanwhile, Oulu enjoys a 4-2 lead after two periods in Liberec, while Vaxjo leads Mannheim 2-1.
Jonathan Mercier scores a goal for Genève in 3 vs. 5 shorthanded play
Genève-Servette leads Frölunda 3-0 after two periods

    21:20
IFK Helsinki are starting to get the upper hand in Denmark and Lauri Taipalus pulls them at 2-4 with his goal. Still a long way to go for the favorite of tonight´s game.

    21:13
Our last goalless game of the night is no longer goalless. Gregory Mauldin scores and Fribourg takes the lead at Stockholm against Djurgården.

    21:08
And it's 0:4 for Oulu after a goal by Suoranta. Home team goalie Ján Lašák leaves the net and Marek Schwarz jumps in.
Kärpät takes a three-goal lead in Liberec following a great play by the second line. Good pass by Huml is converted by Dan Spang who jumped in on the left side.

    21:03
Scoring update after two periods: Koln leads 2-1 over Kosice, Vienna holds a 3-0 lead against Farjestad while Krefeld and Skelleftea are tied at 1.

    20:59
We have some post-game quotes from Třinec – Bern game (7:0):

Václav Varaďa, assistant coach Oceláři Třinec:
„I have to admit that we expected this game to be harder than it was. We knew that Bern is very good team and is hard to defeat. We had a good beginning of the game, we scored some goals. Then we played more relaxed and it was visible on our play. We really wanted to win today, we expected huge attendance because Bern is very attractive opponent. It's great to play against strong team in the Champions Hockey League.“

    Guy Boucher, Headcoach SC Bern:
„They came out really strong, they had a lot of pressure in our zone and we had troubles to play in first seven, ten minutes. We had really bad penalty killing, after that we were just playing a catch-up hockey. We didn't play it well, they were transiting very fast. I am surprised by seven and by how we showed up. But I'm not surprised that Trinec is a good team. We knew it. We need to be better in next games, that's for sure.“

    20:56
Is there a big surprise in the making? Danish champion SønderjyskE now leads IFK 3-0 thanks to a powerplay goal by Patrick Asselin.

    20:48
SaiPa takes a 2-1 lead in Zug after a goal by Sami Venalainen. Still a close game early in the second period.

    20:45
It's 2:1 for ZSC Zürich with Ryan Keller scoring for home side against Valrenega Oslo. ZSC plays in small arena in Dübendorf and it's been a big hockey event for fans of local 3rd league side.

    20:27
Karpat Oulu took an early lead in the Czech Republic at Liberec while Swedish side Växjö leads Adler Mannheim. First period still underway there, as well as in Stockholm where Djurgarden plays a goalless game against Fribourg.
Pretty lucky goal by SønderjyskE Vojens, Patrick Asselin makes it 2:0 against IFK Helsinki.

    20:19
Some of the so called "small" teams are making life difficult for their opponents. SønderjyskE is enjoying a wonderful start to the campaign, leading 2-0 against IFK Helsinki while Briancon is still 1-0 up against Villach.

    20:16
Final score Oceláři Třinec – SC Bern 7:0. Werk arena, a brand new venue of "Steelers", witnessed also a great performance of Jiří Polanský, who tied Tappara's David Kolomatis four points at the Cramo top scorer race so far with 2 goals and 2 assists.
Simon Hrubec of Ocelari Trinec is the first goalie to earn a shutout

    20:05
It's been a pretty long shootout in Kuopio and deciding goal by Robert Sabolic means victory for Sparta Praha. Sparta tied the game with 1:27 remaining in the 3rd period by Buchtele and eventually manage to win 5-4 after shootout.

    20:00
Penalty shootout in KalPa – Sparta game starts.

    19:58
I's been 7:0 already in Třinec after a two quick goals from Jakub Orsava. A crowd of 3723 fans has to be happy with home team domination.

Apart from Trončinský, whose shorthanded goal will be definitely among CHL highlights, other notable player of Oceláři Třinec is Zbyněk Irgl. After 7 long years in Russia he decided to return, but 33-years-old winger did not join his hometown club of Vitkovice, but decided to move to Trinec, which is only a 30 km away from Ostrava. Vitkovice fans got upset and Irgl will have a tough time playing there during the season. But three assists in the first CHL game shows, how valuable Irgl could be for Třinec.

    19:55
There are early goals for home teams coming in from many places. Köln, Krefeld and Zurich are all 1-0 up in their games, Vienna already scored twice against Farjestad. And, Briancon takes the lead against Villach.

    19:53
Second final result of the night. Tappara beats Stavanger Oilers 7-3 despite trailing 0-3 early in the first period! Big comeback.

    19:47
60 minutes played in Kuopio and the score is 4-4. KalPa and Sparta are heading for overtime.
Genéve-Servette - Frölunda is about to start

    19:42
Goals galore in Kuopio. Czech forward Birner puts KalPa back in front at 57:40, but Buchtele scores his second of the night just 53 seconds later to tie it at 4! What a drama!

    19:41
Tappara's forward David Kolomatis is the most productive player so far. With 2 goals and 2 assists seems to be a great import for Finnish side – Kolomatis spent last 5 seasons in AHL, playing for Providence, Manchester and Hershey.

    19:40
Jan Buchtele of Sparta Praha has scored at 55:08 to tie their game against KalPa. Are we heading for the first overtime of Champions Hockey League?
The game in Zug will start at 19:45.

    19:36
Games are now live at Krefeld, Köln and Vienna, as well. Still goalless in all three.
Three other games have started at 19:30, including Vienna - Färjestad

    19:29
Another goal for Tappara and they look destined for victory in their entertaining clash with Stavanger. Nine goals already in that one, the last one by Henrik Haapala!

    19:24
First final result of the night: Vitkovice Steel beat ERC Ingostadt 5-1. Patrik Zdráhal scored the late goal in the third period.

Great introduction to professional hockey for the 19-years-old Zdráhal, who scored twice in the game and added one assist. He spent last two seasons in QMJHL, but returned home this summer and it seems that it was a smart decision. Scoring twice in his first CHL game without a single appearance in Czech extraliga before, that's impressive!

    19:19
By the way, Marek Troncinsky of Ocelari Trinec scored a beautiful goal between the legs just few minutes ago in their game against SC Bern, watch below.
    Troncinsky´s goal against SC Bern

    19:08
Vitkovice are now running away with the game against Ingolstadt. Richard Stehlik makes it 3-1 on the powerplay and then Jan Kana scores another one with ten minutes to go. Is there a way back for the German side?

    19:03
Two more goals for Ocelari Trinec, Troncinsky and Linhart, and they now have a huge 5-0 lead over SC Bern after 2 periods.

    18:57
Pekka Jormakka ties the game on a penalty shot, then Olli Palola 36 seconds later gives Tappara Tampere the 4-3 lead. Now another goal and it's 5-3 late in the second. Remember, Stavanger led this game 3-0 after 8 minutes!

    18:45
Pekka Jormakka with a big blast from the top of the circle on the power play cuts Tappara Tampere's deficit to one goal. The Stavanger Oilers still lead 3-2 with 7:34 remaining in the 2nd period.

    18:40
After 40 minutes in Ostrava, Vitkovice leads Ingolstadt 2-1. In other games all midway through the second, still 3-0 Trinec over Bern and 3-1 Stavanger over Tappara, Sparta Prague now tied 2-2 with KalPa Kuopio.

    18:33
Ocelari Trinec scored twice in the first period against SC Bern, then get a third goal in the first minute of the 2nd period to make it 3-0. Polansky and Irgl both 3 points.

    18:30
Robert Sabolic gets Sparta Prague on the board just 7 seconds into the 2nd period! They still trail KalPa Kuopio 2-1.

    18:25
A flurry of goals in Vitkovice. It was 0-0 for the longest time, then two quick Vitkovice goals and Ingolstadt with 1 back. 2-1 Vitkovice late in the 2nd period.

    18:20
Junila and Riikola for KalPa make it 2-0 KalPa Kuopio over Sparta Prague after one period.

    18:05
Vitkovice Ostrava and ERC Ingolstadt was the first game to start, but it's still waiting for its first goal almost halfway through the game.

    17:40
The first goal in CHL history was scored by Josh Soares of the Stavanger Oilers. After 8 minutes it's already 3-0 Stavanger! Soares with 2 goals.

Preparations still being made in Zurich. Getting closer.

    17:42
Vítkovice – Ingolstadt is scoreless after first period. Home team had more scoring chances, but hero of the day so far is Pielmeier in the crease of German club.

    17:10
One game has started, three more will start in 20 minutes. Below you see pre-game warmups from two of them. In the bottom photo you see SC Bern at Trinec's Werk Arena, and above is Sparta Prague's Jan Buchtele stretching on the ice in Kuopio.

    14:50
    Getting closer . . .

Pre-game warmups have already started for Vítkovice Ostrava – ERC Ingostadt! Here's a look at Vítkovice heading out to the ice.

    16:25
Lanxess Arena in Cologne is ready for tonight's Group A battle, Kölner Haie – HC Košice, which starts in just over three hours.

    16:15
Only 45 minutes til face-off, hockey fans. Excited yet? First up is Vítkovice Ostrava – ERC Ingolstadt.

    15:50
And now a home jersey . . . the Vaxjo Lakers will wear blue tonight in their CHL debut against Adler Manheim. They will be led in goal by AHL Calder Cup champion Chris Nilstorp. That will be one of the last games to get underway today at 20:05 CET.

    15:25
Speaking of the Stavanger Oilers, aren't they a dapper bunch as they dine for their pre-game meal in Tampere? They are, of course, the reigning Norwegian GET-ligaen champions as well as holders of the IIHF Continental Cup.

    15:15
Another white jersey, this one belonging to Vålerenga Olso, who play in Zurich against ZSC Lions. Vålerenga qualified for the CHL by winning the Norwegian GET-ligaen regular season, but then lost to the Stavanger Oilers 4 games to 2 in the playoff finals.

    14:55
As the visiting team in Kuopio, Sparta Prague will wear their white jerseys with burgundy trim.

Sparta finished 1st in the Czech Extraliga regular season last year but were eliminated in the semi-finals. At the other end of the spectrum, KalPa Kuopio finished last place in the Finnish Liiga.

    14:30
Djurgården Stockholm – Fribourg-Gottéron is an interesting Group D match-up. The two teams met in last year's European Trophy in Stockholm, with Djurgården winning 1-0.

Djurgården is returning to the Swedish Hockey League after being promoted from Sweden's second tier at the end of last season, while Fribourg finished 2nd in the Swiss NLA regular season before falling to the Kloten Flyers in the semi-finals.

    14:05
Look at that collection of pucks!

This is a good time to remind you that the puck used to score the first CHL goal today will be immediately removed from the game and afterward be sent to the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto. That will probably happen in the Vítkovice Ostrava – ERC Ingolstadt game at 17:00 CET. If the first period is scoreless, however, three more games start at 17:30, and the first goal could be scored in Třinec, Tampere or Kuopio as well.

    13:55
As we mentioned earlier, ex-Vienna Capitals coach Tommy Samuelsson is returning behind the bench of Färjestad Karlstad. It seems that the Vienna fans are happy to see him again.

    13:50
As you can see from the two pictures below, it will be Oceláři Třinec in red against SC Bern in white when those two Group E teams face off at 17:30 CET at the brand new Werk Arena. Třinec made it to the semi-finals of the Czech Extraliga playoffs and since then have signed ex-KHLer Zbyněk Igrl. After winning the Swiss title in 2013, SC Bern missed the playoffs last year, so are looking to bounce back.

    13:30
Defenceman Daniel Vukovic is entering his 7th season for Genève-Servette. Genève and Frölunda Gothenburg are in Group C along with Diables Rouges Briançon and Villach SV, who also play each other tonight. Both games start at 19:45 CET.

    13:20
Košice won the Slovakian Extraliga championship last season, thanks to 40-year-old playoff hero Peter Bartos. Kölner Haie went to the 7th game of the DEL finals, where they lost to ERC Ingolstadt.

    13:10
The Hamburg Freezers appear to be ready for their big Friday night clash with Lulea Hockey in Group K.

    12:35
There are 15 arenas that are getting ready for Champions Hockey League action tonight, and one of them is the historic Hallenstadion in Zurich. Home to the defending champions of both the CHL and the Swiss NLA, tonight they host Norwegian side Vålerenga Olso.

    12:15
Fans in Nottingham are anticipating Friday night's game against Finnish club Lukko Rauma. The Lukko team, and in fact all of Group K, is also curious about what to expect from the British team.

    12:00
That game Friday between Eisbären Berlin and PSG Zlín should be a good tone, between two teams that are both strong in their leagues. Eisbären CEO and general manager Peter Lee is also a supervisory board member of the Champions Hockey League. He shared his thoughts on the teams and schedule here.
PSG Zlin, reigning Czech champions, are already on their way to Berlin. They are due to play Eisbaren there tomorrow

    11:15
Below is a picture of the visitors' dressing room at the brand new Werk Arena in Trinec. You can see SC Bern has already set up and are getting ready for tonight's game. You can read more about this brand new arena here.

    10:45
Another morning practice, this one in Vienna, where Färjestad Karlstad will play the capitals at 19:30. The big story in this game is Färjestad's new coach Tommy Samuelsson coached the Capitals the last three seasons, so tonight's game will be a return to familiar territory. How will the Vienna fans react to him?

    10:30
Les Diables Rouges de Briancon host Villach SV at 19:45. The mountain town of Briancon loves hockey and, as you can see, they are excited about this game.

    10:10
KalPa Kuopio – Sparta Prague is a re-match from the 2013 European Trophy. When the two teams met in Prague last August, Sparta won 6-4.

    09:45
The first game of the 2014-15 CHL season is Vítkovice Ostrava – ERC Ingolstadt, which begins at 17:00. If the first goal is also scored there, which is probable, the puck will be removed from the game and later given to the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.

The second game starts 50 km away in Třinec, who host SC Bern at 17:30. If the first period in Ostrava is scoreless, the second game also becomes a candidate to see the first goal.

    09:30
Marcus Vinnerborg, as mentioned below, will be one of the referees for today's EV Zug – SaiPa Lappeenranta game. Follow a this link for all of the assigned referees and linesmen on gamedays 1 & 2.
