Vityaz can be proud of their efforts, and Robert Kousal, Mario Kempe, Roman Horak, Nikita Shatskiy and Dmitriy Tsyganov all scored for the away outfit. 60:00
    Game over.

    59:47
With Denis Kostin notably flowing with confidence we're into the final seconds with Avangard heading to an unbelievable 8:5 triumph!

    58:44
Kostin! What a stunning save that is from the young netminder! Roman Horak looks sure to score Vityaz's sixth all alone on the doorstep, but from point blank range Denis Kostin flashes leather quite wonderfully! How did he do that!

    58:14
As time just starts to run down we do indeed have another penalty, as for high sticking Avangard's Kirill Semyonov has been called

    58:01
Vityaz do look rather deflated now and it;s understandable, they led for long periods today until they have just crumbled to Avangard's heavy pressure!

    56:15
    Goal for Avangard!
It's the thirteenth goal, this is just amazing! Vladimir Sobotka beats his opponent for sheer pace down the left, and he feeds SERGEY SHIROKOV at the far post who makes no mistake! Powerplay goal and it's 8:5! Assists- Vladimir Sobotka

    55:33
That Vityaz powerplay is about to become an Avangard powerplay though, as now Maxim Afinogenov of the visitors has been spotted for tripping his opponent

    53:42
Nikolay Lemtyugov of Avangard has given Vityaz a bit of hope though, as he has been punished for high sticking. It's incredible to think we've witnessed 12 goals today, it really has been some spectacle!

    53:22
    Goal for Avangard!
That might just be that now! Harri Sateri just cannot see where the puck is as it was wristed in from the left flank, and all on his own on the crease ANDREY IVANOV at the second attempt staps it in the net! Powerplay and it's 7:5! Assists- Tom Wandell and Andrey Pervushin

    51:59
They haven't escaped another penalty here though! Now Yakov Seleznyov of Vityaz has been penalised, this time for slashing again!

    51:23
Anton Korolyov cutting to the crease down the right shorthanded completely takes out Avangard goaltender Denis Kostin, and he's having to be seen to by the medical team. No extra penalty has been called against Vityaz though!

    50:58
The penalties keep on coming for the forlorn away side, as now for interference Yury Koksharov has been handed a two minute minor

    49:03
Alexander Perezhogin swings sharply to the left of the slot all on his own, and beats the netminder blocker side! But no, as Harri Sateri's mask had already been dislodged the referees have waved the goal off!

    48:57
Vityaz are completely on the ropes, they just can't get out of their own zone! And they've been forced into giving up another foul with Mikhail Yakubov being called for hooking!

    47:24
    Goal for Avangard!
The comeback is complete! SERGEY SHIROKOV sweeping up the puck speeds down the middle of the zone, slightly drifts to the right before cunningly beating the goalkeeper with a pacy snapshot! It's 6:5! Assists- Denis Parshin

    46:48
Popov! Alexander Popov with a beautiful skate cutting in off the right hand boards finds himself with only the goaltender to beat, but he just lets the puck run too far in front of him! And Vityaz have survived that particular scare and they're back at full strength

    44:47
And Vityaz have indeed taken a timeout, they can't afford to get swamped under now with the match at such a critical stage!

    44:47
The pressure is seriously hot from Avangard now! And Vityaz are finding it hard to cope, Yury Koksharov has been sent to the penalty box for holding

    43:49
Vladimir Sobotka hanging by the right of the slot swings it to the far post, but there the puck is tapped inches wide of the near post! Had it been on target Harri Sateri would have been helpless!

    43:01
Roman Berdnikov charging down the right flank backhands it across the slot, but no one is there and Vityaz netminder Harri Sateri gratefully gloves it. Vityaz are looking ever more on the back foot!

    41:53
    Goal for Avangard!
Just like that Avangard are back on terms, and the Omsk Arena explodes with relief! DENIS PARSHIN twists with pace around the net to the right hand post, and wickedly he slams the puck into the near corner! It's a tied game at 5:5! Assists- Sergey Shirokov

    41:07
And the hosts are indeed back at full strength having not given their opponents any chances there at all

    40:51
With Vityaz still on the powerplay for a few more seconds the third and crucial period has begun. Avangard have been trailing for the whole of the game so far, but they will still be full of hope of saving today's match!

    39:56
We're now into the final seconds of a thrilling second period, and it's setting up to be a dramatic third with Vityaz now 5:4 up!

    39:07
The home side have once again had their momentum killed as Denis Parshin is found guilty of holding his opponent illegally!

    38:35
Icing is committed by Vityaz, You really don't know how this match is going to finish up, Avangard just won't let their opponents run away with it!

    37:17
    Goal for Avangard!
This is a simply an amazing game! That Vityaz goal really sparked the hosts into life again! A wonderful searching cross ice pass from the left hand boards picks out VLADIMIR SOBOTKA at the far post, and he finds the net! It's 4:5! Assists- Sergey Shirokov

    36:47
    Goal for Vityaz!
If you ever want to know how to take advantage of a powerplay you seriously need to watch how Vityaz are playing today! The puck is slammed in from the blue line, Denis Kostin can't find it and DMITRIY TSYGANOV scrambles it home! Powerplay goal and it's 3:5!

    36:05
Avangard haven't had a lot of defending to do in this period so far but they are now going on the penalty kill, Erik Gustafsson has been punished for slashing

    34:29
Vityaz looked reasonably comfortable on that penalty kill and to their relief they are at full strength again

    33:52
Denis Kulyash slaps in from the point, and as it rises Harri Sateri flashes leather to calm the situation down

    32:29
As soon as Avangard came back to full strength they find themselves going on the powerplay, for again slashing Kirill Tulupov has been sent to sit down in the penalty box for two minutes

    31:33
Kempe! Mario Kempe directly on the right faceoff circle thunders in a one timer, but it arrows off the boards and into the path of a teammate who can't find the target! That was Vityaz's best chance of the period so far!

    29:38
Avangard have killed their own momentum though as Nikolay Lemtyugov has been punished for slashing against his opponent!

    28:53
This is turning into one of the games of the season already! Avangard have a fantastic chance to come back and even take the points if they can just tighten up at the back!

    27:47
    Goal for Avangard!
That's an opportunity that they weren't going to pass up on, and it's game on again! ERIK GUSTAFSSON is left all alone on the right faceoff circle, and with real power he whips the puck high into the net! It's another powerplay goal and it's 3:4!

    27:18
Avangard have been given an ideal powerplay opportunity to draw within one here, as Vityaz's Kirill Tulupov for slashing has been called

    26:27
Harri Sateri completely loses his bearings for Vityaz, and with the puck flying about from left to right he's extremely lucky to not concede! Someone should really have taken advantage of that mistake!

    25:37
It's been much more of a calmer start to this period than in the first, and especially Denis Kostin in the Avangard net is having very little work to do!

    24:48
Denis Kulyash this time slaps the puck with more force from distance, but blocker side the netminder gets his angles right to get his body behind it

    23:40
Vityaz dig the puck out from the boards on the left, but as it's chucked across to the slot Denis Kostin gloves and doesn't take any risks

    21:51
Vityaz looked very solid on that extended penalty kill and they're back at full strength again!

    21:45
Kalinin! Directly on the tip of the slot Sergey Kalinin finds himself with space, but he wrists high and wide of the right hand post! Maybe he should have done better there!

    20:57
Denis Kulyash swings his stick back for a slapshot from the point, but it lacks power and Harri Sateri gloves it confidently

    20:11

What's going on here, yet another penalty has been called as Yakov Seleznyov of Vityaz for slashing has been penalised with a 2+10 call! And it's now already the final seconds of a crazy opening period!

    19:05
Mikhail Yakubov of Vityaz for holding his opponent is the next to be slapped with a two minute minor as the referees can't stop punishing everyone

    18:16
I'm already losing count of the penalties minutes and it's only the opening period! It's a four on four hockey game now, as Vityaz's Denis Grebeshkov has been sent to the box for tripping

    17:49
It's yet another Vityaz powerplay already! This time it's a team penalty, as for having too many men on the ice Avangard have been punished

    17:28
Kalinin! It could have been a first period hat trick for the Avangard forward! Stripping his opponent of the puck just inside their opponents' zone Sergey Kalinin drifts to the left, fires but it's straight into the goalkeeper's pads!

    16:07
    Goal for Vityaz!
Just as I say that Vityaz regain their two goal lead, what an amazing period this is turning out to be! A heavy slapshot from the point is expertly diverted beyond the goalkeeper by NIKITA SHATSKIY! It's already 2:4! Assists- Kirill Tulupov

    15:42
Avangard are seriously putting the heat on now, and the Vityaz netminder can expect to have a lot more work to do!

    14:15
Parshin! What a chance that was to already draw his team level! Picked out with a cutting cross ice pass to the right of the crease, Denis Parshin has a empty corner of the net, but Harri Sateri makes a fantastic glove save to shut the door!

    13:38
Icing is committed by Vityaz! This game could really end with a cricket score, both defences just haven't got started!

    12:36

    11:59
The referees just cannot stop calling penalties! This time it's Dmitriy Tsyganov of Vityaz who is again the guilty party, as he has been called for slashing

    11:17
Andrey Ivanov spins sharply around the net to the right, swings it across the face of goal and Harri Sateri has to make a sprawling save to freeze! And both teams are now of course back at full strength

    09:30
Avangard have indeed take a well needed timeout, and it's the end of Konstantin Barulin's day as he has been pulled in favour of Denis Kostin!

    09:30
    Goal for Vityaz!
This is a masterclass from Vityaz! Their powerplay is simply lethal! Yet again the Avangard netminder cannot hold on to the puck, and ROMAN HORAK spinning on the crease backhands it into the net! Powerplay goal and it's 1:3! Assists- Denis Grebeshkov

    08:49
Not for long though! Again Vityaz have been put on the powerplay, as now Vladimir Sobotka has been called for slashing

    08:36
The numbers have already been evened up though, as Mikhail Yakubov of Vityaz has been punished for hooking against his opponent

    08:00
And Avangard still haven't learnt their lesson! Despite having already conceded twice on the penalty kill Valeriy Vasiliev has been penalised for high sticking!

    07:42
    Goal for Vityaz!
What a start this is! Three penalties and three goals, wow! No one seems to know if the puck has crossed the line or not but the referees are signalling a goal! Off a slapper from the point the puck is bobbling all around the slot, Alexander Popov off balance by the left hand post squeezes it across and SERGEY KALININ bundles it in! Powerplay goal and it's 1:1! Assists- Alexander Popov

    04:14
The hosts have been gifted a powerplay opportunity to get something going though, for tripping Dmitriy Tsyganov of Vityaz has been sent to the penalty box

    03:48
Harri Sateri fields a looping dump from deep into his crease and takes no chances with freezing for a faceoff

    03:04
Avangard do look a little flat as they don't know how to respond to conceding as yet! The Omsk Arena is rather quiet!

    01:08
    Goal for Vityaz!
With the first real chance of the game the visitors have struck! Charging in all alone down the left flank Maxim Afinogenov lets rip, it slips past Konstantin Barulin and ROBERT KOUSAL sticks it in! Powerplay goal and it's 0:1! Assists- Yakov Seleznyov and Maxim Afinogenov

Interestingly, both these clubs failed to make the playoffs last season, and it was a real shock certainly for Avangard. This season they have strengthened with the signing of Vladimir Sobotka, and they will want to challenge for the Gagarin Cup this year. Vityaz are always one of the KHL's underdogs, but they showed some positive signs last season.

Everyone has been waiting for the KHL to return, and it really has been a great start with drama aplenty already. Avangard had a terrible start surprisingly going down to Metallurg Novokuznetsk 0:1, but they regrouped at home to Admiral winning 4:2. This will only by Vityaz's second game, having been thumped by Salavat Yulaev 6:1 in their first.

Good afternoon and welcome to this KHL regular championship match between Avangard Omsk and Vityaz Podolsk. The hosts may be clear favourites, but they have already fallen foul of a big upset this season.

    Welcome. Game starts at 14:00.
