Tuesday 02.12.2014, 14:00Champions Hockey League gameday liveblog

    Welcome. Event starts at 14:00.

Hello and welcome to Champions Hockey League quarterfinals! We have four games on schedule tonight and another four next week to determine the top quarter in the premier year of this competition.

Here is the full schedule of tonight's action:

17:30 Lukko Rauma – Luleå Hockey
17:30 IFK Helsinky – Frölunda Indians
17:30 SaiPa Lappeenranta – Kärpät Oulu
20:05 Linköpings HC – Skellefteå AIK

Please note that all times are CET.

Eight teams left in the competition are all Scandinavian. We have four Finnish and four Swedish sides in two international duels and two local rivalries. Let´s take a look at our four pairings.
Lukko Rauma faces Luleå Hockey at 17:30 CET in a very interesting matchup. Remember, these two teams already met in group stage! With 100% record after four game days, Luleå won the first game 3-1 at home, but Lukko came back strongly in the return leg and snatched a 2-0 victory. This one promises a lot of drama!

Finnish Liiga rivals SaiPa Lappeenranta and Kärpät Oulu face each other in this clash. Kärpät have been far more successful domestically, battling Lukko Rauma for top spot, while SaiPa are in a group of four teams struggling between 9th and 12th place. These two teams have faced each other once so far in Liiga play, with Kärpät prevailing 3–0 on home ice on 1 November.

Frölunda will likely enter this other Nordic battle as the favourite and will be icing one of Finland’s top young players in Artturi Lehkonen. Frölunda managed to make their way to the next round of CHL with a convincing 9–3 aggregate win over Tappara. At the same time, IFK Helsinki managed to keep things going positively, winning a close second match against Fribourg-Gottéron 3–1 after the clubs had tied their first game.

Skellefteå were able to push JYP to a series-deciding shootout in the Round of 16 and managed to win the series 8–7 on aggregate. Pär Lindholm tied the game with just 18 seconds left to play. At the same time a few hours south of Stockholm, Jacob Micflikier knocked in a loose puck in the slot with two seconds to go and afforded Linköping the 4-3 series win against Sparta. The two teams have met twice in SHL action, each winning on home ice.

Tonight's game between IFK and Frölunda is also available live on Eurosport 2. And you can watch it in slightly better resolution than this one :)

A goal frenzy happening in this game! Despite Lukko going one up, the Swedes have hit back with three goals in just over seven minutes!

Kärpät Oulu have just had a goal washed out for a high stick. The play was reviewed on the TV replay, which confirmed the referees' original call.

    IFK Helsinki 2-1 Frölunda Gothenburg
    Lukko Rauma 1-3 Luleå Hockey

SaiPa see a powerplay chance go begging as they try to tie their game up

    Goal!

Just as they kill off a penalty, Kärpät Oulu's Joonas Donskoi takes advantage of a breakaway to put the visitors 2-0 up.

    More goals in Finland

Luleå Hockey did go 4-1 up against Lukko Rauma through Emil Sylvegard, but Filip Riska's shorthanded effort has pulled the hosts back to 4-2 down.

    End of 2 periods

    SaiPa Lappeenranta 0-2 Kärpät Oulu
    IFK Helsinki 2-1 Frölunda Gothenburg
    Lukko Rauma 2-4 Luleå Hockey

It looks to be all over in Rauma – Luleå go 5-2 up!

As things stand, heading into the closing stages of the early games:

    SaiPa Lappeenranta 0-2 Kärpät Oulu
    IFK Helsinki 2-1 Frölunda Gothenburg
    Lukko Rauma 2-5 Luleå Hockey

    All over!

    IFK Helsinki 2-1 Frölunda Gothenburg
    Lukko Rauma 2-5 Luleå Hockey

SaiPa Lappeenranta 0-2 Kärpät Oulu is a final score

In just over 10 minutes, the final game of tonight will start!

Early goal for Linköping! Broc Little puts the hosts one up after four minutes at home to Skellefteå AIK

So after one period it's Linköping 1-1 Skellefteå AIK

Into the second period in Linköping, and five minutes in we're still at one each

So after two, it's Skellefteå with a 2-1 lead in Linköping

Still no further scoring yet in the final period

Last five minutes starting in Linköping – hosts still trail 1-2.

That's it- Skellefteå hold on for the 2-1 win, despite some edge of the seat moments in the closing stages that almost saw Linköping tie things up!

    Tonight's results

    SaiPa Lappeenranta 0-2 Kärpät Oulu
    IFK Helsinki 2-1 Frölunda Gothenburg
    Lukko Rauma 2-5 Luleå Hockey
