Tuesday 08.12.2015, 13:00Champions Hockey League gameday liveblog
So, this is where we'll pick it up again in the New Year, hope you can join us then!

    Goodnight!

Wow, much like me you're probably all just taking a breath after tonight's drama – two penalty shootouts, two teams coming rom behind to win their series, and 4 top games! (22:55:48)

    Champions Out

Andreas Johnsson ends Lulea's reign as Champions of Europe by scoring the winning penalty shot! Frolunda are through!

We are having a shootout in Gothenburg!

Such a tight game in Gothenburg, 3:43 to go in OT and still we have nothing to separate the teams.
Just to recap this amazing game:

    Another games goes to OT

No separating Frolunda and Lulea over six periods... we need overtime!

Lulea's Mastomaki takes a two minute minor late on, Frolunda call the time-out... 2:44 to go.

Nothing doing for the hosts – 5:01 to go and we're still tied on aggregate.

Power break in Gothenburg, and Frolunda are about to go on the PP with 7 minutes to go.

Frolunda are back to five skaters – they've escaped the major penalty with 'only' one goal against.

    Goal!

Well that didn't take long – 46:12 on the clock, and Johan HARJU hits the PP marker for Lulea to make it seven all on aggregate!

Patrick CARLSSON of Frolunda has just been ejected on a 5+Game Boarding call. Big kill coming up for the hosts.

Period three under way in Gothenburg – Lulea need a goal to avoid going out, Frolunda need a clean sheet this period to make the semis.

It hasn't escaped our knowledge that so far you, the people who voted via twitter on tonight's game, have called 3/3 of the results so far! Good effort :)

What a HUGE period coming up in Gothenburg shortly – the hosts are ahead on aggregate for the first time tonight, and could knock-out the defending champions!

    Goal!

55s to go in Skelleftea, and Pettru Lindgren scores the ENG from his own zone... the NLA side are heading to the semi-finals!

    WHAT. A. SAVE.

It'll be St. Genoni of Davos at this rate – a string of huge saves keep Davos 2 ahead.

4:30 to go in Skelleftea, and the goalie is out.

Less than five minutes to go in Skelleftea, Davos leading by two.

    Goal!

DING-DONG... another blow in Gothenburg! Patrik CARLSSON puts Frolunda in the lead on the night just over a minute into period two, meaning we're level on aggregate.
Now that's how you watch hockey on TV...

    Goal!

Andreas AMBUEHL at 50:32 puts Davos 3-1 ahead, shorthanded!
    Period 3 starting in Skelleftea!

    Goal!

It's never dull with Frolunda & Lulea... Johan Forsberg equalises for the visitors on the night, and puts them back ahead on aggregate!

    Are you keeping up?!

    Goal!

Andreas Johnson scores for Frolunda, a 2-1 game on the night and four five each overall!

    40 minutes down

Skelleftea still trail Davos, but just by the one goal now after a breathtaking middle period from both sides!

If you've not got the Skelleftea-Davos game on, this blogger strongly suggests you switch over... it's frantic, fast, and physical!

    Done deal

Lukko Rauma win the shootout 1-0 to advance to the semifinals!

    How things stand
We're going the distance in Rauma – Lukko vs. TPS will be decided by a shootout!

In Gothenburg, Frolunda are just about to start their match vs. Lulea.

And lastly in Skelleftea, Davos have the most slender of leads at 2-1 ahead.

Oh Rony AHONEN how did you not score that?! Unmarked out in front, and fired straight into the goalie. TPS call a timeout, just over a minute to go in Rauma.

    Comeback on?

Skelleftea are back in this against Davos as Eric FORSSELL nets just 23s into period two.

In case you'd forgotten from all this excitement, we still have one more match to start! Just 12 minutes to go until Frolunda host Lulea, with the home side down a goal from the first leg.

    Done deal

Julius JUNTTILA completed his hat-trick on the breakaway to give Karpat a SH goal! That puts his side 5-1 ahead on the night, 5-3 overall, and they're heading to the semifinal!

    Going to OT

No scoring in Rauma, and this Lukko-TPS game is heading to an extra period.

Drama alert! Espoo now skating 5-on-3, while TPS take a minor to put Lukko on the PP in the closing stages.

Hang on... Espoo heading on the PP.

Power break in the Lukko game with just over 3 minutes to play, in this tied series. In Oulu we have 4:40 to play, with Espoo needing just one goal to tie things up on aggregate with Karpat.

    Goal!

Tied game, and series, in Lukko... Harry TIKKANEN breaks his stick in the process of the shot, but it loops in and he doesn't care! 1-1 on the night, four each overall.

    Goal! Goal! Goal!

Complete madness in Oulu! Karpat go ahead n aggregate through Julius JUNTTILA at 46:27, only for Antti SUOMELA to level it for Espoo 45s later. But that's not all – Markus NUTIVAARA comes back 49s after and puts Karpat ahead again 4-3 on aggregate (4-1 on the night).

BIG last 20 minute scamming up in Oulu and Lukko – period three under way!
    Game on in Skelleftea!

    40 gone in Finland

    Karpat 2-0 Espoo (Agg. 2-2)
    Lukko 1-0 TPS (Agg. 4-3)

We're also less than 10 minutes away now from the game in Skelleftea starting.

    Goal!

Ville VAHALAHTI with a neat finish out in front puts Lukko ahead at home to TPS. The aggregate score here is pretty irrelevant as the first leg ended all square, but for the purists it stands at 4-3 overall!

You have to credit Espoo – going down by two that early, and surrendering their aggregate lead, can't have been easy, but they're still fighting in there.

Back under way in the 17:30 starts... the next goal in either tie will put the scoring team into the lead.
Lineups are in for the game in Skelleftea, where Davos are the visitors, which gets going in just over 40 minutes.

Shots of period one in Karpat were 17-3 in favour of the hosts, while in Lukko it was Rauma outshooting TPS by 11-8.

    20 minutes down...

    Karpat 2-0 Espoo (Agg. 2-2)
    Lukko 0-0 TPS (Agg. 3-3)

Tempers rising a bit in Lukko – Petteri NUMMELIN and Teemu NURMI both sent to cool down for a couple of minutes.

After that blistering start, things have calmed down a bit. Still no goals in Lukko, and Espoo are holding on in Oulu.

An early PP for Lukko in the other game comes to nothing. Still tied 0-0 there after seven minutes.

    And we're off...

... and we've got two goals already! Karpat score at 0:56 and 1:19 to tie their series with Espoo! Julius JUNTTILA and Jani HAKANPAA the heroes!

FIFTEEN minutes until we start tonight's games!

Just under 40 minutes to go... who's excited?

2 hours to go until the puck drops tonight, and we'll be starting with two corkers from Finland...

Karpat Oulu vs. Espoo Blues (0–2)
Lukko Rauma vs. TPS Turku (3–3)

Let us know who you think is going through on #CHL!
So yesterday on Twitter we asked followers to vote for who they think will advance from tonight's games.

    The results were...

Someone seems pleased that Spina and Talonmies are on the same line tonight!

    Morning skate in Gothenburg...

We are live for another CHL match day, and it's a big one – 8 become 4 after tonight's game, as we find out who will contest the semifinals.
