Last years CHL finalist, seven time Finnish champion. Kärpät is one of the best clubs in Europe. Oulu finished last season of Liiga at third place, as they have beaten JYP Jyväskylä in bronze medal match. At semifinals Kärpät lost to Tappara Tampere, who later won the Liiga.
Oulu won Finnish championship six times in last twelve years, last season they advanced into Champions Hockey League final, where Kärpät lost to Frölunda.
One of the founding clubs will play in their third season. Last year Vítkovice made it into play-offs, but they failed in Round of 32. They lost to Tappara Tampere 1-4 and Finnish team advanced into Round of 16. In group stage Vítkovice won two games, twice against Neman Grodno. Team from Ostrava also managed to steal one point from Adler Mannheim, as they lost after shoot-outs.
Vítkovice so far played five pre-season games, winning in three of them. But they lost their last two matches before the start of CHL, 3-4 at Třinec and 0-2 against Slovan Bratislava.
