The final buzzer has sounded, and Canada have comfortably seen off the challenge of Italy 6-1! The score may be large but don't be fooled, the Canadians were given a real test today. Joel Ward, Jason Chimera, Kyle Turris, Brayden Schenn and Cody Hodgson with a double all managed to get on the scoreboard, with David Borrelli grabbing the Italian consolation effort. Thanks for following the game with us, and join me again soon today for Finland against Switzerland at the 2014 IIHF World Championships! (17:59:30)

    60:00
    Game over.

    59:47
We're now into the final few seconds with Canada in the end easing to victory

    58:47
With time now starting to run down the Canadians have five players on the ice again

    56:47
Italy do look pretty tired right now but they do have yet another powerplay, Braydon Coburn for tripping has been called

    56:30
Goal for Team Canada! Canada just tear their opponents apart on the counterattack! Stealing the puck neutral ice BRAYDEN SCHENN skates in with purpose on the right flank, slides it across the face of goal but it takes a deflection off a defender and goes into the net! It's 6-1! Assists- Jonathan Huberdeau and Sean Monahan

    55:48
Battling away at Andreas Bernard's left hand post Cody Hodgson can't find room to make clean contact

    55:22
Nicoletti! Through traffic he takes aim from the blue line, but it's right down the goalkeeper's throat who holds easily

    54:59
Canada are back at full strength with almost exactly five minutes remaining

    53:51
Just as Italy come back to full strength Matt Read could have had a sixth for Canada! Driving in from the left hand boards one on one Read looks to go five hole, but Andreas Bernard stands tall!

    52:59
The penalties continue and this time there's one against Canada, Braydon Coburn has been penalised for tripping

    51:49
Nicoletti! It's another one of those golden opportunities that Italy have seen pass them by! Open on the doorstep shorthanded Davide Nicoletti can only find James Reimer's pads!

    51:37
Trevor Johnson for holding has handed Canada another two minutes on the powerplay

    51:32
Monahan! Three on one breakaway this time for the Canadians, Sean Monahan is picked out open at the high slot but he contrives to wrist high and wide with the netminder panicking!

    51:45
Italy despite those penalties are again back to full strength

    50:31
Braydon Coburn rips a one timer from the right faceoff circle inches wide of the far post!

    49:27
Mackinnon! Nathan Mackinnon wraps his stick around the puck, dumps it into the crease but it travels all the way through and into the boards!

    48:45
That powerplay has very promptly become a Canadian five on three, Deigo Kostner for high sticking has now been called

    47:56
Daniel Sullivan for boarding against Jason Chimera has been sent to the penalty box, and he's lucky that he got away with only a two minute minor!

    47:51
Matt Read with a beautiful backhand pass dishes to Kyle Turris, but his high wrist shot glove side is pushed wide! Those two have been on the same wavelength tonight all game long!
