Zug - Eisbären 1:2
Zug - Eisbären 1:2
Goals and assists: 27. Lammer (Grossmann) – 49. Rankel (Wilson), 56. Olver (Hoerdler)
After the break, the pace slowed up a bit and Zug started creating more opportunities. Early in the second, Reto Suri could tie things up, but couldn't capitalise on the breakaway and the Swiss side was punished just a few minutes later when Barry Tallackson made it 2:0. After that, Petri Vehanen had very little work to do and the home fans were sent into ecstasy once again before the second buzzer as the captain André Rankel increased the goal difference to three.
Early in the third period, the team representing the German capital city pulled the trigger once again as Jamie MacQueen sent home the rebound of Olver's deflected shot that was saved by Tobias Stephan. Eisbären then controlled their comfortable lead up until the final buzzer, so after game 1, the score is 4:0 for Berlin!
Berlin is slowly but surely banging on the doors of reaching the next round! Olver's deflected shot ends up on JAMIE MACQUEEN'S stick and the experienced sniper taps it home! Assisted by Sven Ziegler and Darin Olver.
3rd period starts at 21:15.
With seconds remaining in the second, the captain ANDRÉ RANKEL makes it 3:0 Berlin with a quick shot from a slot after a beautiful pass from Wilson! Assisted by Kyle Wilson.
Oh boy, this is a tough goal to swallow for the guests, who were outplaying Berlin in the second period. Petersen dishes the puck off to BARRY TALLACKSON who makes no mistake! Assisted by Nicholas Petersen and Frank Hoerdler.
2nd period starts at 20:16 CET.
We have the opener not even midway through the first frame! Berlin's top scorer NICHOLAS PETERSEN deflects MacQueen's attempt from the blue line and Stephan has no chance to react! Assisted by Jamie MacQueen.

A pre-game skate for Eisbären ahead of tonight’s game against Zug
"EV Zug are a talented and good skating team, it'll be a great game," said the defender, while Berlin sports director Stefan Ustorf added, "They're a team who play in the same style as us. It'll be a top quality game!"
On the opposing side, Zug's head coach Harold Kreis said, "We want to win! With the group win and advancing this far, we have already achieved our first goal. Now we want to achieve our next one and make it through to the Round of 16," said the German-Canadian. "Berlin are a good team with quality imports, who place good hockey and don't just defend."
