4:0 (1:0, 2:0, 1:0)
EV Zug
Tuesday 04.10.2016, 19:30 • Mercedes-Benz Arena • Champions League • 1/32 Finals

This is it from us tonight, hope you had a #GreatDayAtCHL! (21:48:06)

Eisbären started to push the pace early in the game. Rankel's chance didn't end up in the back of the net but a few minutes later, Berlin's Cramo Top Scorer Nicholas Petersen broke the deadlock – 1:0 Eisbären. Fifteen minutes into the game, Carl Klingberg had a golden opportunity to tie things up, but his turnaround attempt (which was saved by Dupont on the goal line) would be ruled off for interference anyway.

After the break, the pace slowed up a bit and Zug started creating more opportunities. Early in the second, Reto Suri could tie things up, but couldn't capitalise on the breakaway and the Swiss side was punished just a few minutes later when Barry Tallackson made it 2:0. After that, Petri Vehanen had very little work to do and the home fans were sent into ecstasy once again before the second buzzer as the captain André Rankel increased the goal difference to three.

Early in the third period, the team representing the German capital city pulled the trigger once again as Jamie MacQueen sent home the rebound of Olver's deflected shot that was saved by Tobias Stephan. Eisbären then controlled their comfortable lead up until the final buzzer, so after game 1, the score is 4:0 for Berlin!

    Game over.

    59:29
Laurin Braun (EIS) is called for roughing with seconds remaining in the game.

    58:16
Eisbären isn't able to convert on yet another two-man advantage, but that cannot bother the coach Uwe Krupp today.

    57:45
Josh Holden is back on the ice and Diaz's return is approaching, too.

    57:38
EV Zug clears the puck away and the guests are finally able to switch their penalty-killing unit.

    56:51
Jamie MacQueen's one-timer from the blue line is lifted up to the netting and the play is blown dead.

    56:16

    45:31
Moreover, Senteler (ZUG) receives a tripping minor, so another Berlin penalty will follow.

    44:31
Petri Vehanen didn't even have to make a save yet in the third period, it is sure and certain now that the guests will face an extremely difficult task in the second game on their ice.

    38:00

Berlin defenseman Micki DuPont spent several seasons in Zug and then Kloten, before heading to the German capital, so will know a thing of two about the Polar Bears' NLA opponents.

"EV Zug are a talented and good skating team, it'll be a great game," said the defender, while Berlin sports director Stefan Ustorf added, "They're a team who play in the same style as us. It'll be a top quality game!"

On the opposing side, Zug's head coach Harold Kreis said, "We want to win! With the group win and advancing this far, we have already achieved our first goal. Now we want to achieve our next one and make it through to the Round of 16," said the German-Canadian. "Berlin are a good team with quality imports, who place good hockey and don't just defend."
