Good night. (22:39:02)
After a very slow start in a rather poor first period, the hosts started to enhance their efforts from the second period. And they even managed to take the lead 27 minutes into the game.
However, Zug just did not have enough on the night to seriously challenge the visitors of Eisbären Berlin. The German side knew a solid rock between the posts of their goal in keeper Marvin Cuepper, who kept them alive and kicking, and when forward Andre Rankel succeeded in getting the equaliser with 11:22 minutes left on the scoreboard, everybody in Zug's Bossard Arena knew it would take some kind of a miracle on ice to keep the Polar Bears from qualifying for the next round.
Darin Olver's empty netted goal after 55 minutes was just the icing on the cake for Eisbären Berlin.
They will now be facing Frölunda Gothenburg of Sweden in the Champions Hockey League Round of 16, whereas the EV Zug will focus on their domestic league where they are current leaders.
Goalie Marvin Cuepper fully deserves to win this award for Eisbären Berlin.
On EV Zug's side it is their netminder as well, Tobias Stephan.
DARIN OLVER puts the puck into the back of the empty net from Berlin's blue line. 1:2, the game is over for Zug. Assisted by Frank Hoerdler.
Berlin's Wilson managed to sneak away behind Zug's defense, his pass from the left side to the slot was put away by ANDRE RANKEL to level the score, 1:1. Assisted by Kyle Wilson.
It was home team EV Zug though, who got slowly but surely got the upper hand and thoroughly deserve their 1:0 lead after 40 minutes, courtesy of a powerplay goal by Dominic Lammer.
Zug's forward DOMINIC LAMMER manages to capitalise their 5 on 4 powerplay, putting the puck past Cuepper's lower left side into the back of the net. The hosts take the lead, 1:0. Assisted by Robin Grossmann.
Neither of the teams really got into the game as yet. While the home team of Zug should do much more for the game but seem to be somewhat cautious, probably fearing dangerous counter attacks by the visitors, the Polar Bears of Berlin can afford to sit back and act out of a solid defense.
Will the Swiss hosts be able to score one or two goals in the second period in order to bring back some hope and suspense into the Bossard Arena?
The good number of fans cheer their team on, as the players are back on the ice for the Champions Hockey League anthem.

However, as EVZ sports manager Reto Klay affirmed: „It is going to be hard, but not impossible.“
The starting position is quite a challenge though; if Zug are to qualify for the Round of 16, they will have to score and achieve a win with a goal difference of at least 5 plus.
Not an easy task facing opponents who are physically strong and have an outstanding backing in routined Finnisch goaltender Petri Vehanen.
But the visitors from the German capital city are well aware that their place in the next round is not secured as yet: "We are very pleased with the result, but Zug has a good, skilled team," said Berlin's Jamie MacQueen, who had a goal and an assist in the first game.
All is still up for grabs.
Eisbären on the way to Zug
"Its going to be hard, but not impossible," affirmed EVZ sports manager Reto Klay. "We need to make better use of our scoring chances, and stay out of the box!"
Berlin captain Andre Rankel, who saw his team lose both of their DEL games over the weekend, added, "We have a good result from the first leg going into this game. Zug is a good team. We want to get back on track and will do everything to advance to the next round."
