Good night. (22:39:02)
After a very slow start in a rather poor first period, the hosts started to enhance their efforts from the second period. And they even managed to take the lead 27 minutes into the game.
However, Zug just did not have enough on the night to seriously challenge the visitors of Eisbären Berlin. The German side knew a solid rock between the posts of their goal in keeper Marvin Cuepper, who kept them alive and kicking, and when forward Andre Rankel succeeded in getting the equaliser with 11:22 minutes left on the scoreboard, everybody in Zug's Bossard Arena knew it would take some kind of a miracle on ice to keep the Polar Bears from qualifying for the next round.
Darin Olver's empty netted goal after 55 minutes was just the icing on the cake for Eisbären Berlin.
They will now be facing Frölunda Gothenburg of Sweden in the Champions Hockey League Round of 16, whereas the EV Zug will focus on their domestic league where they are current leaders.
Goalie Marvin Cuepper fully deserves to win this award for Eisbären Berlin.
On EV Zug's side it is their netminder as well, Tobias Stephan.
DARIN OLVER puts the puck into the back of the empty net from Berlin's blue line. 1:2, the game is over for Zug. Assisted by Frank Hoerdler.
