USA
Tuesday 07.05.2013, 19:15 • Hartwall Areena, Helsinki • World Championship

After a wild, back-and-forth opening period in which each team scored twice, the Americans seemed to be establishing their game early in the 2nd and took the lead. The Russians really took over the game after that, though. They tied it in the 32nd minute and had the Americans back on their heels for much of the 3rd before Yevgeni Medvedev scored the game-winner on a scramble with 6:22 left. Alexander Radulov added an insurance tally on the power play less than a minute later.

The 3 points put Russia into top spot in the Helsinki Group with 9 points. Their next game is Thursday vs France. With the loss, the USA remains with 6 points in 3rd--they play 2nd-place and group host Finland on Wednesday. You can follow those games and others here at EuroLiveScores.

The Americans not really able to get anything going with their goaltender out late. They had a bit of possession in the Russian zone, but not able to generate any shots.

    60:00
    Game over.

    59:25
Radulov makes a bid for an empty netter but his backhander from the neutral zone goes wide.

    58:43
    Offside USA.

    58:17
Yevgeni Medvedev crosses the centre line and takes a long shot toward the empty net that hits the goalpost.

    57:47
Ben Bishop has gone to the bench for a 6th attacker, with the US needing two goals to tie.

    57:47
The puck bounces to Bryzgalov, who covers it for a faceoff.

    55:27
    Goal for Team Russia!
The Russian power play wastes little time to cash in and take a stranglehold of this game. Ilya Kovalchuk slides it across to ALEXANDER RADULOV, who makes this a 2-goal game. Assist: Ilya Kovalchuk.

    55:17
And now the US's chopes of tying this game have been dealt a serious blow as Danny Kristo is called for high sticking in the neutral zone. Russia has the lead and they're going to the power play.

    53:38
    Goal for Team Russia!
There was an extended scramble in the US crease but Bishop, who's been brilliant, was not able to cover it and finally it was YEVGENI MEDVEDEV who slid the puck under the mess and in. Assists: Sergei Mozyakin, Alexei Tereshenko.

    53:08
And now a puck bounces off the end boards and comes to Bishop, who covers again.

Bishop played most of the season with the Ottawa Senators as a backup for Craig Anderson. A late-season trade to Tampa Bay took away his chance to be close to the action in the playoffs, but has given him a chance to paly here in the World Championships.

    52:20
Now a glove save by Bishop stops play.

    51:48
Kokarev couldn't beat the last US d-man and fired a backhander that Bishop stopped, play continues.

    51:16
A great chance for Perezhogin in front but he fires a one-timer high and into the netting above the glass. Faceoff outside.

    50:33
Off the draw, a shot from the point by Medvedev is caught and held by Bishop. Medvedev is the leading scorer among defencemen in this tournament with 4 points

    50:28
    Icing USA.

    49:30
Another turnover in the US zone, Kovalchuk tries to feed Radulov but the pass is deflected away, otherwise it was probably a goal.

    48:51
Faulk takes a long shot from the neutral zone that Bryzgalov deflects out of play. Faceoff in the Russian zone.
