Germany had mixed results in this tournament when they faced Finland (3-4 OT), Russia (1-4), Slovakia (2-3) and Austria (2-0). On the other side Latvia had a terrible start against Russia (0-6), USA (1-4) and Austria (3-6) before before finally getting their first three points in the match against Slovakia (5-3).
