Sweden2
Saturday 18.05.2013, 15:00 • Ericsson Globe, Stockholm • World Championship

Shots on goal in the 3rd period (and game): Finland 11 (30), Sweden 12 (31).

That's all from the first semifinal, but there's one more today and it promises to be a beauty. Switzerland vs USA. The Swiss haven't won a medal at this tournament since 1953 and nothing higher than a bronze since 1935 (silver). The USA, meanwhile, hasn't won better than a bronze since 1960 (gold). One team will break a lengthy drought with a win.

You can follow that game, as well as both games tomorrow, here at EuroLiveScores.com. (17:20:57)

Players of the Game: FIN Teemu Laakso, SWE Loui Eriksson.

I don't know how you pass up Henrik Sedin for that, but one hell of a game for Eriksson as well, with 3 points as well.

That game was a battle in the trenches for sure, and the difference, as I said before, was the Sedin twins, particularly on the power play they were dynamite with Loui Eriksson.

Finland goes to the bronze medal game tomorrow, while Sweden will play in the championship game at home later.

    60:00
    Game over.

    59:37
    Goal for Team Sweden!
HENRIK SEDIN hits the empty net from the neutral zone. What a game for the Vancouver Canucks captain--MVP of this game for sure. Assist: Loui Eriksson, Henrik Tallinder.

    59:20
Finland has to retreat back and start another rush . . .

    58:50
    Offside Finland.

    58:10
Raanta goes to the bench for a 6th attacker.

    58:05
Hietanen with the shot from the point, pad save Enroth, and the rebound bounced over the stick of Pesonen, who would have had an open side of the net!

    57:56
    Timeout Finland.

    57:56
Now another offside for Finland, who are getting into a desperate situation.

    57:37
Long stretch pass to Salminen, he hits the side of the net with a long shot.

    56:44
    Offside Finland.

    56:16
Korpikoski's shot is deflected out of play. Finland's 2nd line has been their most effective so far this game.

    55:52
Back the other way, Landeskog from a distance, pad save Raanta, back the other way again . . .

    55:15
Now Granlund another shot, pad save Enroth, play continues in the Swedish zone . . .

    54:55
Antti Philstrom with the shot on a Finnish rush, deflected to the corner.

    54:04
Swedes now effectively working the puck around in the Finland zone, finally shoot and Raanta stops it for a whistle, but they took some valuable time off the clock.

    52:50
Finland trying to get something going in the Swedish zone, but being kept to the perimeter.

    51:20
Sweden just about put this game away, as Henrik Sedin undressed a Finnish defenceman cutting out front and found Dick Axelsson coming in, but Antti Raanta robbed him with the glove. That's a save he absolutely had to make at this juncture.

    Derek OBrien
