Very entertaining opening period gave both goals of the game. Crowd in packed Arena 2000 whitnessed a lot of action, fast skating and many shots. Both teams were quite equal in terms of play. Home star goalie Curtis Sanford was injured early in the game, but Vitaly Kolesnik was great backup. Lokomotiv was better team in second period, but couldn't benefit on their field supremacy. Third period was again quite entertaining and teams were not focused on defense only. None of teams could score to win the game in regučlar time and overtime had to be played. Due to Lokomotiv penalty Spartak was in great chance to score, but home team managed to keep their net empty. Shootout was lottery as always and Matt Anderson scored a winning goal for guests from Moscow.
