Final word: Avtomobilist SO win came as surprise, but team from Yekaterinburg sure deserved it. They were the better team during first two periods and were under serious pressure in during third period. However, they focused on strict defending and managed to survive until 60th minute. Overtime did not bring any wiining goal on any side and shootout was as always unpredictable. Jakub Kovar saved all three shots from Spartak players and Toluzakov managed to beat Jeff Glass for deserved shootout win for Avtomobilist.

Years have passed now since Spartak last made real impact on Russian hockey. Last season was particularly poor in performances and standings at the end of season – Torpedo did not qualify for playoffs. However, they started this season's campaign in superb manner, having won 6 (4 straight wins, 1 OTW and 1SOW) out of their 8 games played so far. Branko Radivojevic and Stefan Ruzicka, their leading scorers during 5 KHL seasons, are not part of Spartak team any more, but that obviously doesn't block guys on ice to perform well. Spartak's first choice goalie Jeff Glass is in excellent form (Sv.% 93.19). Points – Rastislav Spirko 8 (5 goals + 3 assists), Deron Quint, the defenseman, 7 (2+5) and Alexei Krutov 6 (3+3). Their last game on Sunday was OT win against Severstal on the road.
Team from Yekaterinburg also didn't qualify for last consecutive three playoffs. Alexei Simakov (5 points for 1 goal + 4 assists), Avtomobilist's best scorer in previous KHL season, is still part of the team and in good form. In fact, Anton Lazarev (6 points for 1 goal + assists) is currently better and Fyodor Malykhin is levelled (5 points for 4 goals + 1 assist) and they will probably be the biggest threat to Spartak's defense. Jakub Kovar, net minder, is in great form (Sv% 91.9), but he misses better help from guys in front of him. Avtomobilist was defeated in four of their seven games played so far. Their last game was serious defeat (2:7) against Barys Astana on the road.
Spartak are serious favorites for this game, but favorites do not always win. Follow our live coverage of the game.
