They put some pressure on the power play and they finally put it in. Ryabykin shot from the point and Vehanen stopped it but ANTON GLINKIN was there to put in the rebound to make the score look a little bit better. Assist: Dmitri Ryabykin.
Jiri Sekac with another enormous effort to set up a goal, again winning a battle in the corner and muscling his way to the front of the net with a man draped over him. He got a shot away that Demchenko stopped, but PATRIK ZACKRISSON was there to put in the rebound. Assist: Jiri Sekac.
Lukas Cingel seems to have become a permanent fixture on the Lev top line now. This was Niko Kapanen's first game back after missing 5 games with a lower-body injury, and the coaching staff seems to have decided that, with this game in hand, the Finnish Flash shouldn't overdo it.
MARTIN THORNBERG had all the time in the world to tee up a shot, contemplated a pass, then finally wristed it toward the net through traffic and it found its way in. Another Lev power-play goal. Assist: Jakub Klepis.
Traktor begins the period on the power play, as 1:06 remains in Jiri Sekac's hooking minor.
Shots on goal in the 2nd period (and game): Lev 9 (21), Traktor 9 (14).
Faceoffs: Lev 23/45 (Vrana 11/20), Traktor 22/45 (Kontiola 11/17).
Icetime leaders: Lev – Sevc 15:36, Traktor – Kondratyev 14:19.
3rd period begins at 21:18 CEST, 15:18 EDT.
No power play? No matter. Delta, B.C.'s SPENCER HUMPHRIES shoots from the point and scores his 2nd of the game, and that's going to be all for Michael Garnett tonight. Two Lev defencemen have now scored their 1st KHL goals tonight. Assists: Michal Repik, Petr Vrana.
It's Jiri Sekac who does the dirty work for this goal, digging it out of the corner and peeling out, then feeding TOPI JAAKOLA sliding in from the point, and he fires another gorgeous shot, this time beating Garnett inside the post to the blocker side. Assist: Jiri Sekac.
How's that for making them pay? After drawing the penalty, MARTIN SEVC scores on the power play with an absolutely gorgeous shot to the top corner after faking a pass. Assist: Justin Azevedo.
Nathan Oystrick not on the Lev bench. He was hit into the boards during a power play during that first period and left the ice favouring his right knee.
Shots on goal in the 1st period: Lev 12, Traktor 5.
Faceoffs: Lev 9/17 (Vrana 5/7), Traktor 8/17 (Kontiola 3/4)
Icetime leaders: Lev – Sevc 7:34, Traktor – Kondratyev 6:49.
2nd period begins at 20:21 CEST, 14:21 EDT.
A harmless-looking 2-on-3 rush for Traktor, but STANISLAV CHISTOV makes a great individual move to cut into the middle and beat Vehanen high to the glove side. Assist: Konstantin Panov.
It's been all Lev so far tonight and they're now up 2-0, this goal on the power play. A nice tic-tac-toe passing play finishes with Oystrick teeing up a one-timer from Nemec, deflected on the way by JAKUB KLEPIS. Assists: Ondrej Nemec, Jakub Klepis.
That didn't take long. Lev went into the attacking zone off the opening faceoff, Tomas Kubalik won a battle for the puck behind the net and fed back to the point to MARC-ANDRE GRAGNANI for his first KHL goal. Assist: Tomas Kubalik.

Probably the biggest reason for the success in the past couple seasons has been the play of goaltender Michael Garnett, who was named to the KHL All-Star Game both years and last year was named the league´s top goalie. He is the KHL´s all-time leader in wins with 106, five of which have been earned this season. He has played every minute of Traktor´s first 12 games this season, and has a goals-against average of 2.57 and a save percentage of .917.
They do have some big names up front, too, led by Finn Petri Kontiola with 12 points. He´s mostly a playmaker, but all 3 of his goals have been on the power play. The teams top goal scorers this season have been Andrei Kostitsyn and Stanislav Chistov with 4 each. Other notable names include Latvian Lauris Darzinš and Czech Jan Bulis. Dmitri Rybyakin leads the defence with 6 points, while Renat Mamashev, an all star last year, is out of the lineup right now and has only played four games.
Of course, there has been big news in the Lev camp the past couple days. Václav Sýkora has stepped down from the head coaching position, citing family reasons, but will stay on as an assistant coach to new bench boss Kari Jalonen. Jalonen practiced with his new team for the first time on Thursday, and will debut behind the bench on Friday.
The Lions got back into the win column with a 2-0 victory Wednesday over Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk, in which Petri Vehanen picked up his 1st shutout of the season on his 36th birthday. About Friday´s opponents, he said: "Playing against Traktor is never easy. When I played there in Kazan, they had a team full of very talented and technically sound players."
Last season, the teams split their two meetings, each winning at home. On September 29 in Chelyabinsk, Garnett stopped 40 of 42 shots to backstop his team to a 5-2 victory and then, on January 10 in Prague, Lev won 6-2 in which Lukáš Cingel scored his 1st KHL goal (pictured above) and Erik Christensen was lost for the season.
