All in all it's a deserved win for the Swedes who completely dominated during the first half hour!

Shots on goal: Czech Republic 7 (14) – Sweden 11 (20)
JAROMIR JAGR forces his way through the defense and his shot towards the left bottom corner goes straight past Lundqvist who claimed that his defender Niklas Kronwall was pushed by Tomas Plekanec into the net but the referees gave the goal anyway!
Assisted by Tomas Plekanec and Tomas Kaberle.
The Czechs are finally rewarded for their efforts! Patrik Elias has the puck on the right wing and passes it back to MAREK ZIDLICKY who fires a one-timer into the left top corner to make it 1-4!
Assisted by Patrik Elias and Zbynek Michalek.
The Swedes can do what they wont and in power play they add the 4th goal! ERIK KARLSSON's powerful one-timer from the blue line goes past teh surprised Salak into the net!
Assisted by Daniel Sedin and Nicklas Bäckström.
The Swedes start very aggressively into the middle period and have several dangerous shots on goal before HENRIK ZETTERBERG makes it 3-0 already this early with a shot from the right wing!

Shots on goal: Czech Republic 7 – Sweden 9
They didn't use their power play but now they score the 2-0! Swedish forward PATRIK BERGLUND is sent via the left wing and with a blast from the left circle he beats Jakub Kovar into the left corner – despite the power behind the shot it didn't look unstoppable!
Assisted by Oliver Ekman-Larsson and goalie Henrik Lundqvist.
With a man more on the ice during the delayed penalty the Swedes take the early lead! DANIEL ALFREDSSON waited alone in front of Czech goalie Kovar and deflected a shot from the right wing by Erik Karlsson in with his body past the surprised goalie!
Assisted by Erik Karlsson.

The Czech team had their last big success at Olympic Games when they won gold in 1998 in Nagano. After a bronze medal in Torino in 2006 they only reached a disappointing 7th place in Vancouver in 2010 but went on to win the gold medal at the IIHF World Championship later the same year.
Sweden won gold at the Olympic Winter Games in 1994 and 2006. At the last tournament in 2010 they finished as 5th. In 2013 they won the IIHF Wold Championship for the second time after 2006 in the new millenium.
The Czechs had to substitute key player Vladimir Sobotka of NHL's St. Louis Blues and in for him in Sochi is Martin Erat of league rivals Washington Capitals. The Swedish team misses NHL stars Johan Franzen (Detroit Red Wings) and Henrik Sedin (Vancouver Canucks) due to injuries.
Both sides are given good chances by experts for medals in Sochi. How strong they really are this year, let's see this evening!
