    Team USA did not more than was absolutely necessary to defend theri big 7-1 lead during the last 20 minutes. Slovakia had a couple of decent shots on target but whenever they appeared to get close to a strike Jonathan Quick in the American net was there with a save.

    The Americans used their lead to save energy for the Saturday classic against the tournament hosts from Russian while the Slovakians get the chance the same day to get consolation for today's debacle against outsiders Slovenia who despite their loss were an unfomfortable opponent for Russia (2-5) today.
