The Fins now will play for the 5th spot against the winner of the game Russia vs Japan while the Germans play for the 7th spot against the losers of this match. A very crucial game for Germany as the 8th placed will have to play a relegation against the winners of the IIHF Division I World Championship.

Noora Räty in the Finnish net allowed a rebound after a powerful shot from within the slot by Susann Götz and BETTINA EVERS makes it 1-2 from short distance in power play!
Assisted by Susann Götz.
Shots on goal: Finland 9 – Germany 6
The Germans looked a bit more stable in defense in the last minutes and tried to find into the game with some attack on their own but now it's already 2-0 in favour of Finland! Riikka Valila conquered the puck in the neutral zone, skated towards the left circle, gave a great pass back into the slot and MICHELLE KARVINEN scored with a one-timer into the right corner!
Again someone might have stood in front of Harss but the shot didn't look unstoppable at all!
Assisted by Riikka Valila and Susanna Tapani.
Just seconds after the Fins won the face off JENNI HIIRIKOSKI beats Harss with a shot from the blue line into the right corner! Suanna Tapani had waited in front of the goalie so that she could see the puck only very late! That's exactly the start Germany had wanted to prevent!
Assisted by Riikka Valila.

In the group stage Finland lost against USA (1-3) and Canada (0-3) in close games before defeating Switzerland (4-3 OT). The shock then came yesterday in the semifinals where they lost against their archrivals Sweden (2-4) after a terrible third period performance. Instead of fighting for medals they now have to play the round of the 5th to 8th spot.
For Germany it was a bit clearer that they might end in this 5th to 8th spot round but they also could have done a lot better. In the group stage they lost against Russia (1-4) and Sweden (0-4) despite keeping the games open deep into the third period before they defeated Japan (4-0).
Finland are the favourites to win this match and reach the final for the 5th or 6th spot but if Germany can surprise them, let's see!
