Sunday 23.02.2014, 13:00 • Bolshoy Ice Dome, Sochi • Olympics - Men

The final buzzer has sounded, and with a perfect game offensively and defensively Canada have claimed Olympic gold for themselves with a very comfortable 3-0 victory over Sweden! We all expected it to be a lot closer but Sweden just weren't at the races and the Canadians ripped them apart at will, with Jonathan Toews, Sidney Crosby and Chris Kunitz all getting on the scoresheet. Sweden shouldn't be sad for too long having claimed Olympic silver, but Canada were just on a different level today. And that wraps it up for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, and we thank you for following this wonderful tournament with us all the way through! Until next time, it's goodbye. (15:28:41)

    60:00
    Game over.

    59:37
    Icing from Canada

    59:30
It's now the final 30 seconds of the Olympic men's ice hockey tournament

    58:31
Nash! He controls the puck on his stick well, his backhand attempt is sent away by Lundqvist and no one can get to the rebound!

    58:00
With only two minutes remaining Canada are coasting to the goal medal, 3-0 as it stands

    56:02
Jonathan Ericsson takes aim off the faceoff on the right, but once again it's deflected up and out of play before the goalkeeper can work

    55:46
Sweden are now trying to press but so far it's a defensive masterclass from the Canadians

    54:34
Daniel Sedin from the middle of the zone goes low on Price but it's too central and Price fields it well

    54:07
Price makes a comfortable save glove side. We haven't seen him in the game for quite some time

    53:57
Johansson tries to find room for a backhand attempt, but he's forced away from the net and the puck eventually is deflected over

    52:28
Canada are back to full strength as Nash backhands the puck not far wide on the slot!

    51:55
Benn! He streaks through the open ice shorthanded, bares down on goal and he shaves the right hand post!

    51:15
Even on the powerplay Sweden can still not get set up in the attacking zone

    50:12
Corey Perry for tripping though has given Sweden a big powerplay opportunity with just under ten minutes remaining in the third period

    49:29
Another two fantastic chance go begging for the Canadians! Already now three up they're not letting up, they are simply brilliant so far today

    49:04
On that note Sweden take a well needed timeout

    49:04
Goal for Team Canada! They're closing in on that gold medal! CHRIS KUNITZ takes control of the loose puck and with a simply beautiful wrist shot off the crossbar he puts a dagger through Swedish hearts, it's 3-0!

    48:19
Perry first time whips the puck in on net and Lundqvist makes another save, this time being able to hold on at the first attempt

    48:16
Nash wrists it hard when driving into the zone and Lundqvist finds it too hot to handle first time!

    Shaun Nicolaides
