The game is over, SKA win by a goal difference and take the lead in the series. The lone scorer today and thus bringing the game-winner was Andrei Sigaryov who will have pleasant memories of this game as it was his first KHL Playoffs goal.

Jeff Glass finishes the game with 96.15 SVS% having saved 25 of 26 shots. Disciplined but open play from both teams brought about a highly entertaining game today, with Kovalchuk missing the net twice lined with the goal line, both times it cruised alongside the line and didn't cross it.

This was a great introduction to the series, and it calls for an entertaining series that can go either way if they play with high tempo like they did today.

    SKA lead series 1:0.

    60:00
    Game over.

    59:49
Chudinov caught up the puck in his zone behind the net, and cleared it away hard, and it will likely end the game.

    59:37
One last chance for CSKA in this game as they go on the powerplay. Ilya Kablukov (SKA) rides the box for delaying the game.

    59:38
Timeout called by John Torchetti and CSKA.

    59:38
    Icing SKA as they clear.

    59:16
Zaitsev fires from the right edge of the slot after a centering feed, blocked and cleared away.

    58:50
Jeff Glass gets pulled to the bench.

    58:00
Two minutes to go in the third.

    57:56
A great pass into the zone for Ilya Kovalchuk who comes in from the left and tries to deke Glass in the slot firing to the other corner, and sees the shot wide after shooting lined with the goal line. The puck cruised alongside the goal line and missed it.

    57:37
They did win it, but couldn't hold onto it in the zone as SKA clear.

    57:22
Icing SKA as they clear and CSKA will come close into the zone if they can pull off a faceoff win.

    56:48
With 3 minutes to go, CSKA build on the attack from behind their own net, and don't want to comit any unnecessary mistakes that could cost them.

    55:30
Nikita Zaitsev shoots from the right circle, Salak ricochets into the slot and CSKA could pick it up, though Salak can't be beaten from inside the slot.

    54:32
Alexander Salak saves the day now for SKA as Morozov feeds into the middle for Yegorshev who is oncoming from the right circle, he gets the shot from the near but Salak saves. CSKA coach calls for hooking, and there definitely was some, it's peculiar they didn't call it.

    53:59
CSKA get into the zone on the left, drop the pass at the blue and then fire wide to the right.

    53:07
SKA dumped the puck in and won the battle at the boards, but the referee gets them back to neutral zone for an alleged hand pass.

    52:36
Tony Martensson shoots from the right boards, the puck flies low and is an easy job for Jeff Glass.

    51:31
Ilari Filppula fires one up from the blue line spinning around, Alexander Salak deflect the puck into the slot and the defense helps out clearing.

    50:52
The game can't open up more than it was throughout the whole play, but certainly CSKA now are trying to find a way to answer back.

    49:44
    Goal for SKA!
Finally they open the scoring and at last beat Jeff Glass. ANDREI SIGARYOV drives over the left wing and upon reaching the circle drags the puck back and waits for the release until he found an empty gap above Glass' left shoulder and opens the scoring. The first goal in the series goes to SKA.

    Assist: Yury Alexandrov.

    48:41
Jan Mursak skates in through the middle, fires one up with a screen in front, Alexander Salak deflects it off to the left.

    47:29
CSKA seem to clear the puck but in reality it was a lead pass to Saprykin into the offensive zone on the right, though his feed wasn't caught by anyone and there goes another good opportunity for the visitors.

    46:47
Cervenka centers the pas from behind the net to the right circle, and on the one-timer Jeff Glass has to save the day again.

    46:14
Patrick Thoresen dumps the puck in from the right, it meets Martensson on the other side and now they build on the attack from behind the net.

    44:57
Evgeny Ketov gets in over the middle, feeds to the left boards in the zone and then the feed comes back into the high slot for onskating Kovalchuk, but the pass comes behind his back and he's not able to turn quick enough and catch it up.

    44:11
CSKA again driving the puck over the left, manage to get a shot through the scramble, no big deal for Salak in net though.

    43:58
    Icing CSKA.

    43:12
Nikolai Prokhorkin gets the puck on the high edge of the left circle off the draw, but his shot misse the net wide into the boards.

    42:57
SKA are coming down in numbers on CSKA's defence, Roman Cervenka takes a shot now lined with the blue, Jeff Glass makes the deflection.

    42:34
SKA on the attack on the left, the shot from the blue wide to the right.

    41:54
Deron Quint breaks over the left and fires a quick release as Salak makes the save. Good breakaway from the Muscovians.

    41:34
SKA still hold the puck in their own zone and wait to set everything up to go on the offense. They've been calming the game this way the whole game.

    40:52
CSKA get on the offense through the middle, but can't find a gap to shoot through.

    40:19
CSKA immediately commit the icing so the puck will be dropped before Glass.

    40:01
    Start of 3rd period.

The third period will commence at around 18:10 CET, 21:10 MSK, 13:10 EDT. You can't afford to miss that!

    Shots on goal: SKA 8 (21), CSKA 17 (29)
    Faceoffs: SKA 10 (20), CSKA 12 (17)
    Penalties: SKA 4, CSKA 2
    Powerplay: SKA 0/1, CSKA 0/2.

After utterly entertaining 40 minutes of hockey, the result is still, unfortunately, 0:0. But judging by the opportunities each team has had, it should have been at least 4:2. Despite Artemy Panarin dominating in the attacking zone, Jeff Glass saves the impossible and keeps CSKA still in play. Saprykin also didn't have luck when his shot beat Salak and then stopped right in front of the goal line.

    40:00
    2nd period finished.

    39:59
A couple of shots by SKA in the waning moments of the period, one seems to have slipped in with the horn, the referees washed it off immediately, and won't even check upstairs, so the result remains 0:0.

    39:37
Team CSKA is back to five on the ice.

    39:12
Another clearance from SKA. CSKA don't look aggressive enough on the powerplay.

    39:00
One minute left in the second period.

    38:29
CSKA were back in, SKA pushed them hard and cleared again. Another good first minute of the penalty killing for SKA.

    38:08
And SKA are able to clear the puck away.

Zharkov with the puck before the net, tries to sneak it in over the line, but Salak makes the save and holds on with a scramble in front of him.

    34:17
Lisin gets into the zone with the puck, but is screened well and can't fire without getting his shot blocked.

    33:53
This game has suddenly turned even wilder, but still we're scoreless. That is the only thing missing today.

    32:18
What a game! First Saprykin comes back and gets a breaking pass over the right wing, goes with Salak one-on-one, beats him but the puck stops an inch off the line and the defence clear. Then Kovalchuk in the very next offense almost beats Glass from the right wing, but Glass deflects merely wide to the left.

    31:34
After a couple of passes at the perimeter, a surprise shot from the left circle by SKA is not so big of a surprise for Glass.

    31:11
Nothing significant on the powerplay so far, CSKA able to clear the zone.

    30:26
SKA are back to full strength and now they will commence their first powerplay of the game.

    29:59
Powerplay ends, Oleg Saprykin (CSKA) gets called for interfering with Salak when the puck was cleared by the hosts.

    29:53
CSKA back in the zone, a shot comes from the right circle, Salak makes the save despite being circled.

    29:00

SKA clears, CSKA comes quickly back in, and get a shot on Salak.

    28:26

CSKA seems to wake up and finally show up in this second frame, another shot from the blue line, wide to the left.

    26:48
    Offside called against SKA.

    26:39
CSKA win the draw inside the hosts' zone, Nikita Zaitsev then makes a quick release from the right side at the point, Alexander Salak deals with it with ease.

    25:42
Artemy Panarin again in the action, twice getting to shoot, first from the outter edeg of the left circle, but Glass ricochets it back to the left side and then drives to the net getting in from behind the line, and Glass keeps the net intact.

    25:25
Igor Makarov passes in to Ilya Kovalchuk, but he was just a bit too quick in and the offside is called.

    24:52
Salak had to deal with a non-dangerous shot, just calmly dropping it down on the ice.

    24:13
Dinar Khafizullin producing trouble by the boards for CSKA defence, though gets little support to go along.

    23:14
Sigaryov receives a fine feed into the zone but gets covered quickly by the defense and being the only one in the zone, can't execute a shot on net.

    22:39

    20:01
    Start of 2nd period.

After having deal with some ice problems, the referees will drop the puck.

Second period coming up at approx. 17:15 CET, 20:15 MSK, 11:15 EDT.

Shots on goal: SKA 13, CSKA 12

    No penalties.

After an entertaining first period neither team was able to get the lead but they're evenly matched on ice, only SKA gets more shots on net. Overall they are a bit better and concrete, but this can go either way if they can both keep up the tempo.

    20:00
    1st period finished.

    19:29
Evgeny Ketov gets on the offense over the left and fires through Yegorshev's legs who was marking him, but Glass makes the save and freezes the clock.

    15:54

    14:57
SKA keep possession, but CSKA keep them at bay not allowing them transition into the zone.

    13:49
Enver Lisin caught up the deflection on the right side in the slot, shoots on sight, though Alexander Salak is focsed and ricochets it off.

10-5 are the shots so far, with only two CSKA players firing.

    08:54
Glass was living dangerously lately as he left the net to play the puck but anticipated it wrong, though SKA couldn't take advantage of it.

    08:18
CSKA with the puck in the attacking zone, but can't get the puck to the middle, they stick to the boards, but that won't help much.

    02:42
Alexei Sigaryov had the puck on the left boards and battling a defenceman managed to get it to Patrick Thoresen on the right, but he can't beat Glass coming out from behind.

    02:13
From what we've seen so far, this is going to be a great, action-packed series! SKA were on the other side trying to break Glass, but he makes a couple of saves.

    01:46
CSKA go on the other attack from the left circling the net, but they're not able to bury the backhander.
