Champions Hockey League gameday liveblog (8.10.2014)

Wednesday 08.10.2014, 12:00Champions Hockey League gameday liveblog

So that's all for tonight – an evening that saw Karpat Oulu and Sparta Prague confirm their places in the next round, and Valerenga Oslo get their first CHL points on the board.

Next up, the draw for round two on Friday.

    Goodnight! (22:47:58)

    Farjestad Karlstad wins in SO

A 3-2 shoot-out win, after six rounds each, sees Karlstad take the extra point

    OT doesn't solve it

No goals in Oslo durng the extra five minutes, so we're going to a shootout

    60 minutes are up

    Sparta Prague 6-3 Adler Mannheim
    Valerenga Oslo 1-1 Farjestad Karlstad

Sparta become the first and only Czech side to make round two. Oslo get their first CHL points on the board.

    Goal!

It's 6-3 to Sparta with another ENG... Tomas Rolinek the scorer, and that is how this game will end.

SPARTA ADVANCES TO THE NEXT ROUND, whilst Vaxjo sadly go out.

    Goal!

At 58:21, Jan Buchtele makes it 5-3 to Sparta – that should secure their place in the next round as group winners.

    Goal!

With 57:25 on the board, Mannheim pull one back. 4-3 Sparta!

    Sparta Prague 4-2 Adler Mannheim

2448 fans in Prague, vast majority of which will be hoping their side can see out the next five minutes.

Vaxjo hopes rest on the Adler

It's a horrible situation to be in, but the hopes of the Lakers now rest entirely on Mannheim finding two goals in the next eight or so minutes.

    Goal!

Sparta Prague move 4-2 ahead of Adler Mannheim with a goal from Kumstat.

    Final 20 minutes underway

Back on the ice in Prague

    End of second periods

    Sparta Prague 3-2 Adler Mannheim
    Valerenga Oslo 1-1 Farjestad Karlstad

    What does it all mean?
Sparta Prague will qualify for the next round if things stay as they are. Vaxjo need a big favour from Mannheim to stay in the competition...

    Big Goal?!

Sparta go 3-2 up, Lukas Klimek scoring the third with 42s left on the period

    As things stand

Vaxjo would win Group G, whilst Briançon Diables Rouges would be the only team to end the group phrase with 0 points.

    Goal!

Valerenga Oslo go 1-0 up against Karlstad thanks to CRAMO Top Scorer Alexander Bonsaksen

Back in Prague, Sparta make it 2-2 through Miroslav Forman

    Goal!

Back out for period two and it's disaster for Sparta Prague... Jamie Tardif score just 20s into the middle session to put the Adler 2-1 up.

    End of first periods

    Sparta Prague 1-1 Adler Mannheim
    Valerenga Oslo 0-0 Farjestad Karlstad

    What does it all mean?
Sparta need another goal, at least, to win the match and their group... otherwise, it's Vaxjo who go through in top spot.

    Goal!

Glen Metropolit ties the game for Mannheim... it's 1-1 in Prague

    Valerenga Oslo vs. Farjestad Karlstad

Also underway up in Oslo. The hosts are bidding to not finish with 0 points.

    Goal!

Sparta Prague take an early lead – Marek Hrbas at 04:13.

    Sparta Prague vs. Adler Mannheim

Underway in the Czech capital, where the hosts just need a regulation win. Anything else, and it'll be Vaxjo who go through.

    Starting soon

    Sparta Prague vs. Adler Mannheim

    Valerenga Oslo vs. Farjestad Karlstad

    Goal

Kolner Haie make it 3-4 in Kosice... Daniel Tjernqvist pulls the score back to within one.

    Karpat through to finals!

A 3-1 win over Liberec is enough for Karpat Oulu to take the penultimate place in the next round.

    Karpat 3-1 Liberec

Petr Jelinek gets a goal back for Liberec with just over two minutes remaining.

    Goodnight Liberec?

Sakari Manninen make it 3-0 to Karpat... is that game over?

    BIG Goal

Julius Junttila has put Karpat 2-0 up against Liberec, with less than 15 minutes to go.

    Karpat 1-0 Liberec

The visitors have just 20 minutes to find at least two goals to win this game, and keep their CHL dream alive.

The hosts, meanwhile, are just 20 minutes away from a place in the next round.

    End of two periods

    Karpat 1-0 Liberec
    Kosice 4-2 Kolner Haie

... Liberec need to find goals in period three, otherwise they're heading out of the CHL!

    Goal!

Tomas Hrnka makes it 4-2 to Kosice shorthanded!

    Goal!

Kosice back in the lead thanks to Marek Bartanus on the PP

    Goal!

The Haie have levelled things up in Kosice – two each there now.

    Karpat 1-0 Liberec

An early powerplay chance for Liberec goes betting up in Finland. Remember, the visitors from Czech Republic must win the game in regulation time to take top spot.

    As things stand

Karpat wins Group A, Kosice move up to third.

So as we approach the end of period one, Karapat is 1-0 up on Liberec, and it's all square in Kosice at 1-1.

This would guarantee Katapat win Group A, as things stand.

Remember that neither Kosice nor The Haie can make the next round, but that's no reason why they shouldn't put on an exciting encounter.

Less than 30 minutes before we get going in Kosice!

    Down in Group G

Mannheim are already eliminated, making this game all about Sparta Prague. A home win for the Czechs will secure them top spot, as Sparta have a better head-to-head against Växjö, who sit three points ahead of them. If the game is taken to overtime, it’ll be the Swedes who go into the next round.

Anything less than three points for Sparta will see them eliminated, as they won’t have enough points to go through as a best runner up team. The Adler took a 3-2 shootout win over Sparta last time the teams played each other, whilst the Czechs have failed to win ether of their last two CHL games.

    What about Group B?

Vienna’s win over ZSC Lions last night confirmed them as group winners. It also leaves the door open for Färjestad Karlstad to sneak through into second place in tonight’s final group game. However they’d only be playing for pride, as 11 points would not be enough for them to advance further.

Vålerenga Oslo, for their part, will be playing for their first CHL points. If they do manage to get themselves on the board, it will leave Briançon Diables Rouges as the only side to end the group stage without a point to their name.

So what can happen tonight in Group A?

A win for Kärpät in any form secures them top spot in Group A, and the automatic berth into the next round. Liberec must beat their Finnish opponents in regulation time to take top spot, otherwise they’d both end up with 11 points and Kärpät have the better head-to-head record. Kärpät ran out 4-3 winners in Liberec the last time these two sides met, and raced into a 4-0 lead in less than half an hour before the hosts started a fight back.
After last night’s games, Kölner Haie are eliminated – they can only reach a maximum of ten points with a win, but that would not be enough to go through as one of the best-placed runners’ up. Neither Kärpät nor Liberec would make it through as a lucky runner up with their maximum points totals, so it really is “winner takes all” later tonight!

So we move to today, and the four games that will complete the group stages:

    Group A
    HC Kosice vs. Kölner Haie
Kärpät Oulu vs. Bílí Tygři Liberec

    Group B
    Vålerenga Oslo vs. Färjestad Karlstad

    Group G
    Sparta Prague vs. Adler Mannheim

Now we have finalized list of group winners and 2nd placed teams and we already know 9 out of 11 group winners and all of the 2nd placed teams with best record. On Wednesday, only group winners could advance:

    Group winners:

    Group B

    Genève-Servette (SUI) 15 points

    TPS Turku (FIN) 12

On Wednesday winners of group A (Karpät or Liberec) and Group G (Vaxjö or Sparta Prague) will be known.

    Playoff teams by countries:

    Finland: 6
    Sweden: 4
    Austria: 2
    Switzerland: 2

On Wednesday one Czech team may join (two under specific circumstances), or one Finnish and one Swedish team.

    Welcome. Event starts at 12:00.
